THE FALL OF CONSTANTINOPLE

Description
THE FALL OF CONSTANTINOPLE-marcknop-AOE2 scenario
*****************************************************

Scenario for multiplayer game for 6 players, 2 locked teams of 3 players, for Age of Empires II, with The basic Conquerors, and the Forgotten and the African Kingdoms expansions.

GAME SETTINGS :
_________________
Host : Lock teams, non explored visibility, conquest victory.

Civilizations and teams: Player 1 (Red) : Turks, team 1 ; Player 2 (Blue) : Byzantine, team 2 ; Player 3 (Yellow) : Italians, team 2 ; Player 4 (Green) : Turks, team1 ; Player 5 (Teal) : Turks, team 1 ; Player 6 (Purple) : Italians, team 2.

HISTORY :
___________

« The Fall of Constantinople (Greek: Ἅλωσις τῆς Κωνσταντινουπόλεως, Halōsis tēs Kōnstantinoupoleōs; Turkish: İstanbul'un Fethi Conquest of Istanbul) was the capture of the capital of the Byzantine Empire by an invading Ottoman army on 29 May 1453. The attackers were commanded by the then 21-year-old Sultan Mehmed II, who defeated an army commanded by Emperor Constantine XI Palaiologos and took control of the imperial capital, ending a 53-day siege that had begun on 6 April 1453. After conquering the city, Sultan Mehmed transferred the capital of his Empire from Edirne to Constantinople, and established his court there.
The capture of the city (and two other Byzantine splinter territories soon thereafter) marked the end of the Byzantine Empire, a continuation of the Roman Empire, an imperial state dating to 27 BC, which had lasted for nearly 1,500 years.[3] The conquest of Constantinople also dealt a massive blow to Christendom, as the Muslim Ottoman armies thereafter were left unchecked to advance into Europe without an adversary to their rear.
It was also a watershed moment in military history. Since ancient times, cities had used ramparts and city walls to protect themselves from invaders, and Constantinople's substantial fortifications had been a model followed by cities throughout the Mediterranean region and Europe. The Ottomans ultimately prevailed due to the use of gunpowder (which powered formidable cannons).[4]
The conquest of the city of Constantinople and the end of the Byzantine Empire[5] was a key event in the Late Middle Ages which also marks, for some historians, the end of the Medieval period.[6] »
quote from wikipedia.org/wiki/Fall_of_Constantinople

The game starts when Mehmed and the vanguard of his army encamped outside the city on the Monday after Easter, 2 April 1453.

OBJECTIVES :
______________

It's basically a regicide teamed game:
defeat all the opposite team by conquest or killing of his chief.

For the team 1 (Ottomans): If the Sultan Mehmed II dies, you all lose.

For the team 2 (Christians) : If the Byzantine Emperor Constantine XI dies, you all lose.

Moreover, the Byzantine Wonder, Hagia Sophia, will provide 200 gold to each player of a team, every 10 mn, if it is owned by a player of the team.

HINTS :
_______

Starting age :
Team 1 (Ottomans):
Player 1 : Post Imperial Age
Player 4 and 5: Imperial age

Team 2 (Christians) : Post Imperial Age

Restricted buildings :
for the team 1 : no stone walls or gates ;
for the team 2 : no castle.

Player 1 : protect your special cannons made by the Hungarian engineer Orban (especially the biggest canon ever made at that time in the world, the « Basilic », an 8 metters long bronze cannon, shooting 600 kg stone cannonballs). You will have a lot of problem to cross the Theodosian triple wall of Constantinople without them and their formidable range, attack and resistance. Try to build a base and castle close to the Sultan, to protect him better, reinforce your dead troops and collect resources. You got a lot of stock for that at start.

Player 2 : send quickly the Eastern troops in the West, to protect the land walls better. Beware when you go out of the walls of Constantinople. You can stand the siege by repairing and the farms, trees, fishes and relics collecting, inside the town. You can trade safely in town and in the Golden Horn, the river North-East of Constantinople. Protect the great chain blocking the enemie's ships or he could bomb Constantinople from the North-East too, from the river, or land more easily.

Player 3 and 6: same hints than player 2.

Player 4 : build rapidly a base with military buildings, you got a lot of resources stocked for that. You got enough tents to not get housed. Develop your technologies before attacking the mighty walls and towers of Constantinople. Christians have better armors than you for now. You don't command the elite troops of the Sultan. You can perhaps find a way to land in Galata on the other side of the Golden Horn river, on Eastern bank, to attack the Genoese town of Pera and prevent fleet, reinforcements and trade.

Player 5 : you got a lot of ships but they are quite weak compared to the European ones. Perhaps it will be wise to try to improve their abilities before to try an attack. Perhaps is there a way to land safely in Europa or avoid the Genoese fortified city of Pera and his great chain blocking the Golden Horn river between it and Constantinople. You got a small land to make economy or collect resources but you have already a huge stock of wood. Spare your food, focus on ships, not land troops, that's your purpose.

Spirit of the law: I will be generous with you, I will leave your comment, although it is obvious it tries to make anti-advertising to me and obvious advertising to you, because I don't flee real debates and I don't care if my scens "looks" great but want to defend a minimal truth about history, for the respect of the deads.

Also: ALL French victories came from Joan advises and prophecies (like the arrival of Falstolf, the weakness of Tourelles, the opening of st Loup gates, the arrow in the chest, etc). So instead to present her as a vulgar "cheerleader" you should have more respect about the miracles which she accomplished. It is not because you have no faith, that saints, angels or god doesn't exist. Be respectful to believers and don't twist historical truths to try to prove something wrong. Just explain me one thing: why a country almost all conquered, with about half army dead from almost all lost battles, since hundred years, was almost entirely taken back in few weeks with not one troop more or new general, except Joan? How a non literate peasant girl could have known all of that and convince even lords and kings she would be right (even the English ones fleeing in front of her)?

Spirit of the law: what a generous and fair spirit. By the way you should compare my map and real maps to official aoe2 campaign of the siege of Orleans before to say it is well made. I was born and still live hundred km from Orleans and feel ofended by that pitiful reconstitution.
First: to put NO defense on the bridge while it was precisely the key of the victory of whole France PRECISELY because the most formidable defended bridge is f amazing.
Second: to not understand that the cleansing of the Loire was cities guarding again Loire bridges and on the west and east of Orleans, to SIEGE it.
Third: to not understand again that Falstolf army was mainly long bows and coming to rescue Orleans troops to take it back again (and also that no Burgundians starved other French, which is outrageous brit claiming, as usual).

I'm deleting your comments on my scenario because you keep linking your own. Your scenarios look great and I welcome your feedback on my maps, but please refrain from advertising them that way in the future.

NEW VERSION: 14: now player 5 (teal) got 2000 food (instead of 500) at start, with a mill, 4 cows and a new hero tower in the sea: the "Maiden's tower" (see the new screenshot).
