Simple Foods

Description
A simple mod to change the behavior of food in Kenshi.

Principally, it offers an alternative to desert food and making bread.

Every desert outpost (Which I would believe is the majority of outposts) requires bread to create other food to keep the outpost going properly.

Given the way the AI in the game behaves, creating bread for recipes requires an entire other person, so this mod offers an alternative to baking bread so that you can have a single person run your food production!

Current recipes are:

Flatbread. A 15nu item that weighs next to nothing, and occupies a 3x1 space in your inventory. Requiring 10 wheatstraw and some water to make, it offers a very lightweight, cheap food item that will let your soldiers or travelling characters carry a great deal of it. Bread is still better.

Wholegrain Oatmeal: A 25nu snack that occupies 3x3 space. It has the same crafting requirements as flatbread, and is an alternative to standard bread. It gives slightly less nu, but only requires a stove. It is not used in recipes, and therefore is only preferable to bread if you wish to simplify your production line and intend to constantly produce oatmeal.

Meat Gruel: A bowl of oatmeal and a meat slurry. A 50nu meal occupying 3x3 slots, but requiring a strawflour and three meat to craft. This is for outposts that hunt or have wild animals attacking constantly and have a good supply of meat to keep uip with the production needs of this specific dish. A meatwrap will be better nu and use less meat, but this dish only requires a stove and a silo.

I'm open to suggestions if you have a certain food combination you want added to the mod. I intend to add alternatives to all bread-based recipes, with their own pros and cons. Probably trading lower nu for more portability or ease of creation.

I'm not sure how dead this mod is, but the 'wholegrain oatmeal' icon seems to be missing in-game, and appears as a large red X.

Good ideas @The_Funktasm. I'll reinstall Kenshi (new pc and all of that) and try to remember how to make new recipes :3 I'll give it a go!

I would've suggested a denser "seed bread" but the way bread is made in the game I assume you would have to make a bread oven specifically for the new type of bread...

I suggest a hemp derived food made from the seeds. Like a porridge or seed bar of some sort, or both. It would help manage overflow in larger textile farms by providing a constantly useful product to manufacture along with cloth.

thanks, this will be a nice food to cook for my slave and prison :)

Great! Something to feed my growing collection of imprisoned inquisitors with :D

@anielrebirth Thanks. I don't much have the patience for giant farming mods and overhauling. I just wanted to have a decent alternative to constantly cooking bread! My characters always get bugged at bread bins specifically. Or they refused to remove bread from the ovens and bottleneck the entire system unless I have someone babysitting the bread.

So I'm just gonna make alternatives to bread wherever possible, and one or two choice recipes for people living in weird places: IE an 'Offal' recipe that uses spoiled meat and rice to make something... barely edible. Good for living near river raptors!

I don't intend on adding any new resources to the game, just giving fun new ways (and more options on how) to use the ones we already have!

Looks good, doesn't look overpowered and uses what's already available :) can't wait to give it a go. Looking forward to seeing more; I was getting turned off at farming mods that add entire new buildings/crops/research trees and support systems
