Narrative Control

Description
What does this mod do?
This mod allows you to restrict the constant flow of NPC chatter that the game throws at you. With this mod, you can remove Bradford's narrative events entirely, remove narratives on the Geoscape, or remove narrative events from any NPC. You can use the default options, or add custom exclusion rules in the INI. All features in the mod are optional.

What are narrative events?
A narrative event occurs whenever you hear an NPC voice speaking to you. Most of the narrative events in this game are accompanied by a talking animation of the character, in the top-right of your screen.

Mod Features
The default values for each feature are shown in the screenshot gallery
  • Choose Central Officer Bradford's narratives. Options: All, Ambient Only, None
  • Prevent Shen & Tygan's greetings from being added to the narrative queue, if a narrative is currently playing.
  • Stop all narrative moments from occurring in the Geoscape
  • Stop all narrative moments in the strategy layer
  • Exclude any narrative event with a SoundCue name that matches a pattern. See the 'Excluding more narratives' section for more details.

Mod Config Menu support
This mod supports, but does not require, the Mod Config Menu. This allows you to adjust the settings in-game. To access this menu, go to 'Options', then click the 'Mod Settings' button.

Notes
  • The X2WOTCCommunityHighlander version 1.9 or higher is required for this mod to work.
  • Currently, this mod only affects narratives on the strategy layer.
  • Cinematic narratives, the movie cutscenes that play once per campaign, are not affected by this mod.
  • I will not be releasing a version of the mod for the legacy game. The legacy Highlander does not have the event hook required.

Excluding more narratives (optional)
You can exclude additional narratives, if you want. See this short guide on creating custom exceptions.

Class Overrides
None.

Troubleshooting
  • The narrative settings aren't working! You need the X2WOTCCommunityHighlander mod installed for this mod to work. Check your Launch.log file for this text:
NC: X2WOTCCommunityHighlander is missing or is an old version! Please install the latest version and relaunch the game
  • Bradford is still yapping at me on the tactical layer! This mod currently only affects the strategy layer.

Changelog

Does this also remove DJ's narrative in bar room? I like his narratives but it seems gone after I installed this mod

Can this be used to stop the random garbled walkie-talkie sound bites that play when you are in the Geoscape map or other certain sections of the UI? They're not tied to any specific character and it don't have any subtitles but they are distracting. Can this be added?
