ATROCITY pt 1 *Not Supported*

Description
*Got out of Arma Modding and am not supporting this, FYI. Sorry for any inconvenience*

NOTE (ver .95):
This mission is a WIP, near completion and completely playable but keep in mind, the items still in development are some major story arc stuff.

This mission requires RAVAGE by haleks

--------------------------------------------------------------

The world this mission inhabits is intended to be surprising, mysterious and requires investigation to understand. Events can happen at random that can leave your team struggling for survival, with limited support and limited resources.
Terrible people have done terrible things and all may not be exactly as it seems... if you're interested there's some backstory to be had along the way. And if not, enjoy either way!

(Meant to played with RAVAGE's amazing soundtrack audible in the background)

ATROCITY FEATURES
  • Minimal Handholding: Much info about the world, mission goals and gameplay are presented, revealed or discovered thru in-game "RP" means. (Immersion/discovery focused gameplay)
  • Story based but free roam Military/Survial gameplay
  • Survival features such as thirst and hunger (RAVAGE)
  • Sleep option available at any tent, sleeping bag or bedroll. Pass the time as needed. (RAVAGE)
  • Rescue Missions
  • Save your game as often as needed
  • Tasks that will result in the Lakota group establishing a better foothold, possibly a home if it comes to that (WIP)
  • Recruit Squad Members or go solo
  • Investigation and Intel Gathering
  • Helo piloting is not mandatory but this mission was built with that being a major focus
  • Exploration may end up helping you to understand a little more of what's happened
  • Keep in mind, some story elements are still being added, will push out updates as able.

    Some Backstory...

  • The world degenerated into political and societal chaos, nearly all superpowers chose a side.
  • The war this lead to seemed inevitable after the events of the 'Great Divide'. And the chain reaction of nations unleashing their most cruel, inhumane and powerful means of warfare resulted in the near extinction of society and civilization as we know it. The world burned, choked... smothered, victims to the wrath of powerful men... only a few isolated corners of life surviving.
The remainder of earth suffering under neverending clouds, dust, fog all of which seem to contain low levels of radiation, charged particles and other permanent atmospheric effects that have rendered communications and signal tranmissions of any kind virtually useless. Compasses even malfunctioning in all but rare, low impact areas.
  • Short range comms are all that's left, limited to only a few hundred clicks, on a good day. The crew of the Lakota over time have found ways to live with it but the struggle seems neverending.
  • The Lakota was part of Task Force 76, enroute with NATO forces on board to bolster Tanoa's NATO presence, prior to the war. Most major fleets on all sides worldwide, came under direct attack during the war. The Lakota narrowly escaping complete destruction, with the help of allies and civilians alike, the rag-tag group managed to limp its way to Tanoa... on unreliable bearings that had them sailing blind.
  • You play the role of Captain J Nolan, the leader of an elite NATO squad known only as 'Phantom.' Phantom group was along for the ride to the Tanoa area as their assignment was to take place there as well.
  • You are one of roughly 3 people remaining in the Lakota group who can fly helo's effectively and of the 3 you're the very best, the only one with experience in multiple craft.
  • Phantom has been crucial in helping establish a new FOB for the remaining NATO forces and Lakota survivors but the future ahead is still questionable.

  • Major Faulk is ultimately the ranking officer however mistakes were made which is why the Lakota now sits mostly abandoned. Discipline is a bit lax but everyone has really grown tighter since "the incident" aboard the Lakota just a few weeks prior and as time goes by survival and the safety of the Lakota group are now all that matter.
  • PHANTOM team's tasks and expectations are largely optional and technically no mission can be 'failed', there are always other options to ensure survival.

This is their story...

Require apex. you should add it to required items

Yeah sorry man, made this one with no plans for anything but SP. Will def consider it for Pt 2 though.

Thanks for the kind words, means a lot! And yeah that performance fix will be the toughest part for my upcoming updates but I’ll exhaust all options while still trying to keep the asthetic I was aiming for.

Probs out of scope / gonna get moaned at by peeps ...BUT this would be awesome to do 4 player co-op , is that something you have considered down the road or? Either way its a mega concept and as SteelKitten7 said , it has a really good "Last Ship" vibe to it which I personally think is a brilliant TV show!

This mission / campaign is ticking all the boxes so well done mate I am having a blast so far! I keep getting tense everytime I start to set down in my LZ's for fear of the jungle suddenly sending out tons of hungry zeds towards my helicopter ( thankfully has not happened yet haha! ) 7/10 ( would be 10/10 if the performance issues could get fixed!)

Well Done!

The story behind this seems to take after the Last Ship TV series on TNT. By any chance has this been inspired by that?

That d be great!

Once the holidays start winding down I'll be able to push out my next update and will take a look at these fixes as well.

Unfortunately for me it's a little bit too demanding..

I see. In this case it must be the fog effects mostly... is that right? How does the weather effects work? Added by scripting? Depends on how the fog and other environmental effects have been added and calculated. I can remember that I've once tried something similar. The engine tries to calculate ambient occlusion on objects, which led to stuttering in my case. After disabling AO the lagging was gone (not in your mision though). I cannot help much with weather.. :-/
But besides the weather, are you using more post-processing effects additionally?
Smitty Jagerman  [author] 27 Dec, 2017 @ 2:07pm
Yeah, I wish I could say it was due to heavy scripting or several simultaneous arguments but I don’t have much scripts running at all. The performance issues are likely from the weather effects. I wanted them just right and it was at the cost of performance. Especially if you notice it being seemingly random.
Also there will be a few drops when you’re within range of some scenes but only once the first “load in”.
The weather is likely the culprit smh, controllin weather in Arma sometimes is like trying to push a rope.

Great! Also I'm not exactly sure, but I guess the mission sometimes seems to be near at a script overload - or at least kind of. SOmetimes it gets FPS taxing. Not sure, maybe it's also something else. But it could help to optimize code by i.e. replacing commands and functions with better ones. Example: If - then - else statements using something like "if == ..." or "if = ..." can be in need of more computing power than using "if IsEqualTo ...", etc. Also when using big comparing functions you might wnat to use the "switch" operator. Maybe you know that better than me :)
Just thinking about what could be done to improve the overall performance.
I just tried the new Patrol Ops 4 and I'm very impressed by their caching system and everything else, how it's handled, even with quite big amounts of units and scripts. There's abolutely no performance loss so far.
