Balanced Research Buildings Reduce Corruption

Description
This mod adds a stacking, modest corruption reduction effect to each level of each culture's research/lore buildings. UPDATE 2020: After a two year delay this mod finally supports the Rise of the Republic campaign! Big thanks to AkaalElite for updating and testing the mod for this DLC! Please check out his mod QOL Improvements which does what this mod does, and more!

Level 2 -1% of current corruption
Level 3 -2% of current corruption
Level 4 -3% of current corruption
Level 5 -5% of current corruption (Restricted to certain factions)

This mod can be added and removed from saves at will, so feel free to experiment or use it temporarily to get you through a rough patch.

I dislike the ridiculous levels to which corruption soars in the base game but felt like all of the mods I could find that addressed the issue were too powerful for my tastes. So I have made this balanced version. Now as you build and upgrade more research buildings, something you should be doing anyway to maximise your research speed, you will add a stacking reduction to your factions current corruption value. See the attached screenshot for an example of late game corruption and income with normal play.

For example of how this mod works exactly, if you have seven Akademia (the level 4 Greek research building) than your current corruption value would be reduced by 21%. So if you had 50% corruption and no other sources of corruption reduction your corruption would be reduced to 39.5%. However this will stack with reductions from research. I like to end up with at least fifteen research buildings over the course of my campaign, often more, and working together with the research options from the philosophy tree you can end up with a very low corruption value. 0% even if you went crazy and built like thirty level 4 research buildings!

An added bonus to this mod is that it both encourages you to keep on top of your research buildings, helping out your technology overall, and reduces the necessity to rush down the philosophy tree.

Please note this mod only applies corruption reduction to dedicated research buildings typically found in province capitals. Minor settlement (glass) for instance will not lower your corruption. However if you do find a dedicated province capital research building that this mod does not work for please let me know. I mainly play Grand Campaign and cannot test every faction or DLC.

This mod was inspired by Research Buildings Reduce Corruption and the other such mods that preceded it. However my mod was built from the ground up and does not include any of the effects of the previous mods other than reducing corruption values. However I am very grateful to the mod authors before me that inspired me to create this mod. :)

Glad to hear it! I am happy this old mod is still helping people out! I agree, making less money as you expand is so nonsensical.

Back when I made this mod I don't believe there were any tools to fight corruption. It's good you can mitigate now to some extent.

Look: with these 2 tips, keep senate clean, chek every year because just yesterday i killed the 5th "+5% corruption factionwide" and to the opposite i found the first "-5% corruption factionwide" onto one my generals! Then 5 spyes with 3 of them with the reduction 1%/2%/3% (after being correctly ranked, focusing on cunning and authority) i got an empire IMPERIVM VIII (8) with 64.3% corruption having NO MODS for reduction! I got also a screen on Rome! My money raised from 20.000 to 30.000 proturn!! Playing Rome2 needs micromanaging and thinking also on what you build city by city, is not 4 people impatient:)

I don't think I ever really played a full game after they reworked the agents' skills. It is good to know they added some form of corruption mitigation. And yeah, IIRC corruptions naturally ends up at around 90% for huge empires in the base game even after you research all corruption reducing technologies. Just a few traits increasing corruption could cripple you. After all, going from 80% to 90% corruption or 90% to 95% will literally halve your income each time. At least, I think that's how the math works. It's been a while!

I am in late Avgvstvs game (6AD) and already "eliminated" 4 Charachters with the "poison trait +5% corruption factionwide" its incredible how raise money this. If you let things go theirselves into senate your corruption will go crazy! Every year the summer chek 4 senate;)
TIP2: Corruption can be lowered of 1%-2%-3% if you train your spy in the right way--> develop cunning traits, read carefully and you will find (every increase of rank) the trait that also help reducing corruption;) Count 4-5 spyes .. it's close -10% corruption more!

I haven't played for a long time, but I think I do remember a trait like that, now that you mention it. And I agree! Anyone with such a wretched trait must die!

TIP: Check every "tot" seasons or every couple year at least your senate if you are in Imperator Avgvstvs Campaign! Why? Because all charachters both your party and others party, men and wifes, generals, politicians or admirals :) they could get a ☠ "poison trait" that add +5% corruption factionwide! How to react? Simple, get your most cunning man (sicarii must be cunning at least 2+ than victim) and make him kill that charachter! In my case, immediately after the killing of a woman "libertinii" my money raised from 10.000 to 13.500 pro turn!
