Despite being a 2018 game with visual novel elements, VC4 still lacks an auto button.

After further review (playing the game), no.

Game design devolves down to either wailing on the enemy fast simulator (power fantasy) or dealing with cheesy game design tactics like stage hazards, AOE enemies or enemies with power weapons (explosives and hard hitting guns).

The gameplay is fun but I do not appreciate how you have to suffer the yap or jokes going on. Ruins the flow of gameplay and feels like a combo interrupter than it is a breather from a room full of madness. There's also no way to regain health by doing something risky like a finisher. In fact I think the only utility finishers get is some iframes/tendency to not be interrupted when you're performing them.

It's like the game insists that upon your health bar attriting over the course of a map. Not very eustress inducing.

took me like 50 minutes to troubleshoot this infinite loading symbol glitch going on, as well as running the tutorial level twice to confirm i could save without dealing with the infinite loading glitch

unacceptable for a game released in 2022 on w10/w11, doubly so if it's a unity game that you can install and launch with steam

Intravenous is back and better than ever. Formerly used with the subtitle of Collateral, the game places Sean, a rookie hitman with a father taken hostage, as the protagonist. Honestly the writing for bad guys and the greater scope of the urban setting is Segal movie tier, but what really shined was Sean and Steve, the previous game's protagonist, rapidly building a brotherly bond and mentorship over the course of the story.

Gameplay wise, it's mostly the same as with the first game, but with enough changes and iterations to pay attention to. For a start, guards now have radios to ensure accountability at all times. There's an expanded arsenal of nonlethal weapons and gadgets to play around with. And if that's not enough, you get to customize your weapons extensively, right down to the trigger group.

Looking forward to see what Explosive Squat Games does next with this style of game, as well as what they do for post launch support of Intravenous 2. Maybe a special forces spin-off in Afghanistan, as a play on words regarding the poppy fields? Maybe a superhero or vigilante game? Maybe there's plans for an Intravenous 3 where an off-duty police officer takes up hit jobs using his precinct's gear? Sky's the limit at this point.
