Portal without Polish.

If you have never played Portal, you might enjoy this. Otherwise this is B O R I N G. Five chapters in and I'm still doing the same things in the puzzles... Place your item in reverse order. Move to first location. Press reverse button. Move to next puzzle. Repeat.

Actually, if you have never played Portal or especially Portal 2. What are you waiting for? Skip this and play those.

Edit: So I finished the game. This game is a solid meh. There are a few high points in an otherwise pretty repetitive game. The devs made a few mistakes: 1. The first five chapters should have been condensed to one. Those chapter are far to easy, especially for anyone who has played Portal and set a terrible first impression. 2. All the puzzles boil down to the rewind. Despite having different types of blocks, in the end, you are just reversing everything. 3. Some puzzles are annoyingly tedious, especially 15.5. 4. annoying checkpoints on SOME puzzles. 5. Movement and Rewind would sometimes seem to hang or not start.

Game got better after chapter 5. Chapter 12 was a highlight. After Chapter 5, you had to think on a lot of the puzzles. I found I was over thinking the solutions in most cases.

~ Slow/Relaxing

- Very simple puzzles
- Not Out of the box ready for Steamdeck (see below)

If you have gamed over the years this is nothing new. It's mostly find your way (without a map), and find things along your way. There is no story, not a negative to me, but I wanted to point it out. The puzzles mostly consist of turning "buttons", with there being more luck getting them right than any kind of deduction. Chapter 7 is a bit of a bear to play. Without a map, it can be really hard to know where you are going. The game starts off a little slow, but after you pick up a few skills, it gets a bit more interesting. I enjoyed my time with it, but there were a few times where I was ready for it to end.

On the Steamdeck, this game seems to get confused with the controller config. Here is how I got around it. Once the game is running, press the Steam/Xbox button. Then go to controllers and add the Keyboard/Mouse config. This will allow you to use the right stick as a mouse. Go back to the game and then immediately return to the controller settings, and change it back to the Default Controller. Works fine for that session. You have to redo these steps each time you start the game. Your results may vary.

Meh. Not terrible but not great either. Glad I got it in bundle.

I'm kinda of surprised I never reviewed this game. It's awesome if you enjoy co-op games, although it was fun solo too.

This is what kind of game this is... No one on my friend list has this in their wishlist... they either already own it or they are zombies you shoot at in the game.

Repetitive, odd, trippy. I was ready for it to end long before the end came. Not a terrible game, but nothing so special that you have to play it. In fact, this is one of those game that you could watch someone play it on youtube and get pretty much the same amount of enjoyment out of.

Switched this to a mild recommend from not recommended.

+ Graphics
+ Exploration
+ Upgrades (especially last one)
+ Map Snapshots/Markers (every Metroidvania should have these going forward)
+ Adjustable Difficulty Levels for combat

- Obnoxious precision platforming in some areas and unable to change difficulty
- Story kind of starts, and then it seems like it's forever before you come back to it
- Can only save at Trees. A royal PITA when you need to quit and you aren't close to one.
- Can't use Steam Cloud Saves

The precision platforming starts about half way through the game, and is beyond annoying. I've never cared for games like Super Meat Boy, so this was a real wake up call. I got better with practice and finished a lot of sections I didnt think I would when I started running into them first time. The movement by the end is actually really good. However, at the end, there are at least two OBNOXIOUS precision platforming sections. Get Gud? How about kiss my a$$. I never enjoyed that level of frustration, and I don't have the reflexes that I used to.

Around the 10 hour point, I was ready to quit. The map seemed too big, and it was kind of a boring experience. I kept playing, and eventually, got into the whole reason I love Metroidvanias, the exploration.

My list of better Metroidvania's: Ori and the Blind Forest, Ori and Will of the Wisps, Supraland, Steamworld Dig 2, Jedi: Fallen Order

If you want to read a really good negative review look for Kain Klarden's negative review from Aug 22 2024. Pretty much sums up my experience with the game. (heres the link: https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/id/klarden/recommended/2751000/)

Although I have never played a real Zelda game, it seems I have liked every game I have played that is compared to Zelda. That list includes Deaths Door, along with Supraland, Hob, Tinykin, and Ittle Dew.

I really enjoyed this game, aside from the final boss. The final boss did not have as many save points as I would have liked, so it created a bit of annoyance and tediousness. I was glad to get past it after about 20 tries. I'm not one to usually enjoy the story in a game, but this one kept me interested. I especially enjoyed the exploration, and using the upgrades to get to places you couldn't before. In some ways this game is very much like a metroidvania. One other note, since the game tags include Souls-like, I want to point out this game does not have the annoying collect your souls feature, and most save points are very close to where you died. Those two things make this game better.

So a number of reviews say if you like Hollow Knight, Blasphemous, and Ori, you will like this. For people like me I want to give some clarification.

I didn't like Hollow Knight or Blasphemous. I don't enjoy punishing games.

I did enjoy both Ori games. In fact I would consider both of them to be among my favorite games all time.

Sadly Grime falls into the annoying/punishing category like HK and Blas.

Not saying this is a bad game, nor the other soulslikes, but I want others who dislike the punishing nature of these games to know what they are up against.

I want to start by saying this isn't a bad game, but it wasn't for me. I've played a lot of poker, and it's possible it's why I didn't connect with this game. In the two hours I played, I would bet more than 75% of my hands were real flushes or 4 card flushes (in game modifier). Because of my modifiers, the flushes were worth more than full houses. It was just counter intuitive. You don't play against another hand, only a predetermined dollar amount. And that is one of the odd things to me. For a game that is so dependent on the amount of money you earn, there didn't appear to be anyway to figure out the value of your hand until you played it. Secondly, there are ways to convert cards but you can't preview the change before committing to the change. In one instance I didn't understand what the conversion was actually doing, and in another I misunderstood the order of the conversion and lost a card I would have loved to had back. Glad others are enjoying this but I'm a bit underwhelmed by this one.

Mild recommendation.

The cartoon and humor were the best parts of the game. The fighting was okay but mostly repetitive. Some of the mini games were okay, but some where down right annoying. In particular the section called 'Emergency Stations' was a complete PITA. So the game is a fighter, platformer and mini games. It does nothing for any of those categories that another game hasn't already done. I enjoyed it in small doses, but not enough to highly recommend it.
