If you have played the first Steamworld Heist, then you have a rough idea about the flavour and feel of this game too. (If you haven't then both are filled with great music, splendid art, a good plot with charm and wit, alongside a turn-based skillshot game.) With that out of the way, how is this one better?

Job specialisations which you can mix and match for the perfect individuals in your team - that wasn't clear - your characters can each do all the jobs and cherrypick the skills they want to use at any given time with no penalty for switching every battle if desired.

The range of weaponry is superb. You have so many items to choose from, at every tier of power.

You have a submarine this time, which engages in real-time battles and can, yes, be upgraded significantly. So much so that the sub itself has nine slots at maximum for weaponry or boosters.

Now, a confession. Despite loving the original game, I baulked at the price initially. I shouldn't have. I did buy it when it went 34% off but in my defence I was caught up in a couple of other games before then, not to mention they released this the same day as another one of my hot favourites. On reflection, I should have bought this on release.

Don't be fooled by the 2d layout and think it is some flash game or simple platformer. This is a work of art.

Having a real blast with this, it is a breathtaking world full of little discoveries.

I am not a Harry Potter fan but it was on 70% off and looked worth a shot. Well worth the money, it turned out. I am not going to go into much detail (spoilers) but I was more than impressed by the range of activities, spells and all-out adventure to experience.

Really, if you are on the fence, watch some videos of it and give it a chance.

Really enchanting game series. The addition of ships and naval combat for this one is a glorious touch.

Do yourself a favour and stop reading reviews. They cannot capture the charm of these games. Buy the first one on sale, then the second one on sale then break open the piggy bank and buy this one out of sheer love.

Absolutely fantastic. Stand aside, Path of Exile, Titan Quest and all other pretenders. This old little gem is the best thing since sliced heads, chopped livers and ruptured spleens.

Assuming you have played Torchlight 1, which is not necessary, this is so much better - so much more creative and enjoyable. No faffing about with intricate Degree level learning like POE, just get in there, hack, loot, repeat. Dragons! Robots! Strange slimy things! More!

Honestly, I don't tend to go overboard on reviews but this one is giving me a lot of joy so far.

First time I have completed a run is after 9 hours - that seems like a reasonable balance. The game is quite tactical but I cannot claim it is exciting.

You have up to 7 columns of cards to eliminate with spells that do fancy things to help you with that goal. You pick your loadout from the shop and can vary it from round to round, to an extent. It is a roguelite in that you can upgrade your deck abilities to make the runs easier.

What looms now is a choice - unlock the other decks or take on something called "Epic". Not really a choice, is it? Getting there was a sequence of 18 battles then a boss. The night evaporated playing it and I do have to warn people, this game will eat up time. So far, it seems worth it though. Worth the couple of quid I paid anyway.

Edit: After 74 hours, game 100%. Worth it. I have no life...

Splendid. Poker without the animosity of other players, just a never-ending mix of optimism and rage.

Optimism as you carefully build a structure of special Jokers, Tarot effects and other boosters to aid your run, feeling this could be a good one.

Rage as reality sets in, usually on the final "boss".

What is not to love about a drunken Santa on a rampage? The game is quite short but has a lot of replayability, more so when the dev adds achievements which seem to be on the cards. So far I have completed one 20 minute mission to the end out of numerous tries and unlocked all but one of the characters.

So what's it like? It is like a drunken Santa on a rampage, do try and keep up. And buy this game, it is well worth the asking price.

Pack them in and pack them tight,
Stack them left and stack them right.
Precious items vie for space,
Vicious daggers seek their face.
There's one slot left, what's in my stock?
Perfect! There's a hunk of rock!
Gnaw with poison, burn with fire
Or as Berserker build up ire.
Whatever weapons you then wield,
Just make sure you stay well-healed.

Welcome my friends, to the City of Vice,
Where Tommy Vercetti makes naughty seem nice.
He steals all the cars that he finds in the street;
He is though, the kindest young outlaw you'll meet:
His passion for keeping our spirit alive,
You see it in his great community drive -
He chases off gangs that will prey on the weak
With Rampages that leave a bloody killstreak.
He even sells ice-cream, this gent of a man -
You see him wave cheerily from his white van.
And litter patrol is not beneath him:
He picks up those packages dumped on a whim.
What more can I say of this hero so fine?
For decades his game's been a favourite of mine.

An epic tale in which a scout
Strives to dig some treasure out.
He takes his mighty pick and hacks
At ore which fills his greedy sacks.
And all the while, he fires a gun
At bugs and critters but not one
Will stay him from his sacred way,
To find his gold, to loot and slay.
