Hyper Light Drifter tells an amazing story that has emotionally moved me. The developer, Alex Preston and his congenital heart disease has affected his perspective on life and allowed him to create a story full of hurt, acceptance and perseverance. Not a single word of dialogue is uttered throughout the entirety of the game. Instead, a story is told implicitly. Our main character, referred to as The Magician, travels through the ruins of a once prevalent and lavish world. Every corner tells a story. The environment paints events of war and fallen adventurers similar to you. Survivors of the old world share their stories briefly before you nod in a silent understanding and continue on your way. Just like Preston, a congenital disease also effects our adventurer. The time he has left is very little, yet he continues, with constant fear of having another violent coughing fit and his heart stopping at any moment. Despite this fear and affliction, he perseveres until the very end. He didn't let the fear of being on deaths door stop him from choosing a selfless path. He essentially laid down his life for hopes of a better world, all without promise that he would even succeed or get to witness the fruits of his labor.
