It's just very fun.

Not that hard of a game but it isn't a walk in the park. You an do some really fun busted things and there's a surprising variety in moment to moment gameplay.

A fun aestetic and lots of cute references. The game doesn't take itself too seriously and it's great for it.

Played on the PS4 back when base World and Iceborne were released.
Was good then.

Is still good.

You should try it.

Just a good game. Think Pokemon but with at least some thought put into its gameplay. Like you know, an actual upgrade.

Not all things are the kind of things I'd like to see personally, but it is most certainly a very good step forward. I can see a lot of people grinding the ♥♥♥♥ out of this game, but honestly you don't have to. It's a great casual and hardcore experience, whichever you like. (also I love co-op, it's really fun, and it also gives incentives to do so)

The best version of Final Fantasy III available. The amount of quality of life this pixel remaster adds is insane.

Diagonal movement, snappy commands, quicksaves, fast menus, maps tracking treasures and items obtained, even a bestiary showing you which enemies you've yet to encounter in which areas (would be nice if you could access it in a save, but it's still amazing to have).

The previous versions of Final Fantasy III has been very clunky and slow, which hasn't been to its benefit at all considering it can be a little bit repetitive. This one fixes that with way faster combat.

The actual downsides comes with Final Fantasy III itself and not the quality of the port. It is a very early game in the series with very undeveloped themes. It is a very fun game, with its job system until you reach the final dungeon. At least for me, my character that were not that leveled could just be auto'd (with preset abilities) through every single random encounter and most boss encounters. It made the last 2 hours or so not that enjoyable, which is a failing considering how epic it is with basically 4 dungeons slapped together with tons of cool enemies and bosses.

One of the most exhilarating games I've ever had the pleasure of playing.
High speed, a ton of action, and meaningful choices.

This game respects you as a player. It doesn't give you barebones combat and is willing to challenge you.
Not many games will make you feel as badass (and deservedly so) for playing well. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves active, fast paced games with tons of choices and interaction in combat.

Risk of Rain 2 is a "roguelike".

You start a level, with randomised loot in it. The levels are set, but the locations of objects and what enemies teleport in are not. You beat the enemies, you buy the loot with the cash dropped, and go onwards, forever.

I had the misfortune of trying this game in Early Access, but the planning and the added play to this game doesn't change the core formula and issues I have with it.

The game works in cycles. You clear 4 levels, and restart the cycle. Every level has a selection of 2 (as I'm writing this) different maps for them. Repeat until you die. The game gets harder the more time that has progressed, and the more levels you've progressed through.

The maps are huge, and honestly slow to traverse at the start of every game. It gets slightly better on the next cycle, but it's slow in the start and with poor item selection it can remain painful for a long while.

The gameplay loop is extremely repetitive, and the difficulty increase just makes it more of the same. The game works around crowd control.

Itemisation is very lackluster. Most items are basic stat boosts or semi-unique stat boosts. It can be fun to have a 100% crit build or a high attack speed build, or even being able to jump 8 times. But it doesn't change gameplay that much more.
The most interesting items are mostly legendary. Legendary items add unique modifiers that does change how you want to develop, moreso than most other items. However, they are legendary, and they take time to pop up early on in a run.

In the end, Risk of Rain 2 can be fun, but it's repetitive fun. Maybe if you enjoy spamming the same 4 abilities for an hour with little difference or development, you can have a good time. But in my honest opinion, there are way more interesting games that do similar things but better.

During early Covid 19 I wanted something to spend my suddenly lonely freetime with, and this game was excellent for that.

I wasn't expecting the enjoyment and trance I got playing this game, as these games generally tire me because the end goal can feel like just a daily grind.
However, this game has a pretty fun progression. Getting to know the townspeople, slowly upgrading your farm, getting more and more to take care of and handling. It starts with just some seeds and farmland, but it ends with coops, barns, a dog, a husband/wife, upgrading and changing the house, handling several different facilities for wine, jam, mayonnaise, caviar, and probably a lot more than I don't even know yet.

Your daily routine gets into you. Why does your character wake up at 06:00 a.m. when everything opens at 09:00 a.m.? Because you gotta talk to your significant other, make sure your pet has water, feed and interact with all your farm animals, milk all your cows and goats, grab the eggs from your chickens and ducks, go out and take all the produce from your facilities and prep some more, make sure you've watered your plants (if you don't have sprinklers), and reap and sow your harvest.
Sounds intimidating? It didn't feel like it. You are always done before 09:00 a.m. and it's fine. Now you can plan the rest of your day. And there's a lot to do. Like getting to know the townspeople, go fishing, mine exploration, finding artifacts, helping the town hall restoration, and explore the additional areas you unlock with time. On top of all this there are special events that happen at certain times of the year, which spice it up even more.

After a year, I really felt at home in Stardew Valley, and it was a really comforting experience. But for me, that's when the grind started a bit, and I lost my apetite to continue as most things had been done, and the things that were left were really time consuming in comparison.
I can't without good faith say this game is bad however. I had so much fun with this game, and it is amazing. I highly recommend it to people who enjoy these types of games, and if you in general don't, you might have a decent time anyway if you've got an open mind to try.

This game has such a beautiful evolution of mechanics every single playthrough.
It kind of inspires me with so many great ideas. One run can start with you thinking "Oh I kinda want to do a stance dance build" with your first few picks, and in the end it becomes an amalgamation of your own unique perfection.

How could you get that far? Sometimes it just seems so implausible, but you're suddenly there, a master of your own system you've made, and clearing through the challenges with ease.

There's some minor issues with how the game is made that causes some errant play. A player cannot have the foresight of knowing what boss will be in Act 3, so making a heavy-play deck and meeting a Keeper of Time that limits how much you can play sucks. But it's such a minor thing in the grand scheme of things, and when your deck happens to be so efficient it can play 30 cards in a turn, or 5 and still do well, it gets time to shine during those occasions.

The amount of decision making is constant. The path through each act, the options in the merchants store, the relics and random events, the campfires, each play of a turn and card selection. It all makes every run your run, and you can make something wonderful with it.

Unoptimised mess. I don't care how good the game might be if it doesn't run smoothly. Garbage.

This game has such great control, and allows you to do the dumbest things. You can jump around the level almost however you want, and there's tons of ways to do it. Do the obstacle proper, jump over, under, off to the side, or maybe to the top of it to blast yourself through a huge chunk of level.

The freedom, and mobility allowed is insane. It's one of my favorite platformers, and it's because it allows for so many paths, by it or yourself. No solution is final, and there's very few limits to what you can do.
