I have and love all the other games in the Tales series, and have played them for years. It's what made me think such a high price for a game would be worth it! This one? No.

The storytelling is just plain bad, and I've played free games that had better. Seriously, I can't imagine whoever wrote this crap is any older than 10 years old, due to its excessive amount of contradictory plot and interpersonal elements. The world doesn't contain any immersion whatsoever, as there clearly wasn't anyone with half a brain at the beginning of the game's development making sure that implications and connotations had the same theme.

The magic system is about as complicated as the creativity of an average six year old could come up with, so at least that's a positive.

I got this on sale, and the price is 0% worth it, but I fell asleep while playing, so its over the time limit. If this went on a 99% sale so it goes from $33 to $4 or so, instead of its normal $86, then I'd still hesitate to recommend it as there are other games sold for less with a more interesting magic system and a more believable story.

TL;DR I think whoever made this is gonna get sued for calling it Tales.

The first game in the Rune Factory series that I've felt the need to downvote! Ignoring the prologue and just clicking as fast as you can, reading nothing, took 20 minutes. That, and the art is distractingly terrible- I've played games on Nintendo 64 that had better lighting effects. Anyone that plays this will notice within a couple minutes.

Do you like financial micromanagement games? If you do, then you might like this.

Do you like games where you field a bunch of warriors against another group of warriors in real-time 3d, but in order to do that you need to have played the first game genre I said? Then you might like this.

Do you like games that force the two genres together, relying on one another, so you have to be a warlord to get influence to have an army and use that army to have the money needed to do the financial micromanagement and the micromanagement is needed to pay for the army? Then you might like this.

Do you like games that crash every time you try to run it in an earlier beta so the game is easier to understand and actually works effectively? Then you might like this.

Controls are inverted-ish, going at angles. Trying to control your own movement is very difficult since it isn't consistent. GUI isn't intuitive, even with its walkthroughs. I tried switching my movement controls, which made me immobile. Resetting to default controls made no difference, still immobile. You are supposed to NOT save up your evolution points, but figuring out how to actually evolve is difficult. Like, am I supposed to add to the grid, or add a bonus to my cell, or what? And you either can't add something, or you do, and can't see it, and confirming the evolution doesn't confirm the placement of the evolution on that grid, kind of maybe? Instead it confirms you're done evolving. So that's a real good use of time.

Don't buy this until the game actually gets playtested by the team that made it.

The moment I saw the art style, I immediately thought of Kixeye's Backyard Monsters. This, I like a lot. Playing it for awhile, it is a nearly exact clone, which I have no problem with since the original is dead.

Bad: This should be single player until they have servers. Seriously I spent 80% of my playtime getting server errors and having to reload over and over.

If they make it possible to actually play the game, then I'll upvote.

Con:

- Wobbly cameras while walking, using skills, or in a cutscene
- Can't save most the time, instead you have to save&quit then turn the game back on and continue
- It's extremely obvious the devs didn't play their own game
- Nearly useless quest info
- The worst combat controls I've ever had the displeasure of experiencing, and I started gaming in 1989

Pro:

- A lot of different named characters

Usually, I'd play a lot more before giving a positive review. But this game has already let me know how much I'm enjoying it and going to enjoy continue playing!

Pro:
Main story has a good progression
Sidequests take place in biomes with interesting things to steal and put on your home island
Can change what island is your home island if you want to
Ridiculous amounts of limited time events, some with interesting biomes and rare resources
Some of the limited time events give you pet or trophy rewards
Different monsters fight in different ways, providing a learning challenge or you get ganked a lot

Con:
It takes a stupidly long time to reshape your entire island into a giant flat plane

Unique idea, at least with everything I've seen. Of course, unique doesn't mean good, but since this is still being worked on, it's an exceptional start, and I highly recommend it.

PRO

- Through building, take control of all resources on lots of planets
- Multiple ways to do the same thing
- Like seriously it says to dismantle your landing pod but I never do, it's still there even though I have 3 planets now
- Seems to be some randomness in the planets of your first solar system
- More stuff coming from the developer
- Certain techs you'll get make finite resources infinite

CON

- You really wanna leave the game running while you sleep or go to work due to how long research takes
- I'm still hoping for some game mechanics (they might actually do it) regarding flora
- I can't figure out the Vein Restoration

It's like they copied the worst parts of Endless Legend and Civilization V.

I'm a massive fan of turn-based civilization builder games and have played them for decades, and I have to say this is one of the worst.

Pro:
There is a LOT of variety with empire types.
The nation leaders talk back and forth during diplomatic events and trades and such. I thought it was hilarious and great when my leader was yelling at another leader back and forth. Fun, immersive.
Graphics are good.

Con:
Even with no other empires (well 1 other, never met them), just trying to keep your own empire from falling apart without anyone bothering you is difficult as crap.
Having a lot of outposts is useful, but somehow the Food calculation gets whack as soon as you absorb them into a city. If everything is self-sustaining, why do you hit the Dark Ages and starve to death so quickly once they're joined?
Can't upgrade units. I got multiple armies wiped out by Independents since I couldn't do anything with my own guys.
Population becomes military when you train military. That part's fine, but not when you can't disband them back into population because their equipment level is obsolete.

Ideology is a mistake. I was thinking it would be dynamic, and events in-game could be considered 'good' or 'bad' and over time a religion would form. I didn't know it would be a blunt tome right at the beginning.
I also didn't know that Ideology would make all animals require enclosed pens. What about my husky army collecting Chunks for me? I guess that's not a thing anymore. Definitely needs to be modded heavily before being part of my game, if I even activate it again.
