Valve dumped this game on the community and said "Here, do something with this.", giving the Steam community a fun free game with a fulfilling 4-player co-op campaign, but without any further support or incentive for people to continue playing. Bundled with the free SDK, they ecouraged the community to use Hammer to develop custom maps to keep the game going, however it was far from simple to use, and even when you followed instructions by the letter, it hardly ever worked properly.

I spent hundreds of hours developing maps, bundling map packs for the public, and reviewing maps on the Swarm Armory (SwarmArmory.com) to supplement its shrinking fan base, and eventually decided I had spent enough time on it. It's a good game. I never really got tired of it. But you can't expect a single person to make a good map with replay value on their own. Good content requires time and money, and a team of people working full time. Since it was free, DLC wouldn't have been out of the question.

A highly underrated and underplayed game that features jetpacks, shoulder-mounted mortars, hover bikes, and mech suits. The single player campaign is a bit short and more like an expanded tutorial with a story-line. There are several mutli-player modes -- which are fun if you can find enough people to play with you. Section 8's biggest downside is the fact that it uses Games for Windows Live - which is a slow, cumbersome interface that has no place on PC gaming platforms.

The single player campaign alone makes this game worth the price. However, the expansions and free third-party mods (like Blitzkreig) broaden the scope of game so much that it succeeds Command & Conquer Generals as the best modern warfare RTS to date.
