I was going to give this a negative review on account of the AI voices and dialogue so grating that the game literally improved twicefold by turning them off....

But, the rest of the game is pretty solid and fun. Has some janky quirks with the random lootbox's of gear you get, but each mission is so short that if you get screwed its easy enough to restart without any hard feelings. The campaign progression is equally wonky, but its serviceable.

For 15 dollars, if you like the horde defense genre, i'd recommend picking it up. Turn off the voices and loudly complain about them though, they are truly horrendous and a terrible practice even for a small indie game.

REMOVE WATER MECHANIC COUNTING DOWN IN REAL TIME!

Currently, game has a mechanic where you need to get water to supply your hideout and ensure your survival. A cool idea to encourage you to care about your survival and a "loss" condition if you run out of water. However this counts down IN REAL TIME. Its very slow and easy to do, but having this mechanic at all means you have to play the game at least a few hours a week or lose all your stuff. In a PVE game.

Simply unnacceptable. Don't buy until they change!

Review a game for how it is now, not the promise of what it will be. With that in mind, I don't think this is the co-op vampire survivors game your looking for.

For a co-op game, it REALLY HATES you playing co-cooperatively. Its vampire survivors but with FF... So all your mostly uncontrollable attacks now fling into your friends and instagib them, meaning you essentially have to play alone rather than working with your friends. Don't worry though, you can randomly get augments to change spells into healing!... Only for your other spells to outdamage that healing. Plus, its RNG if you even get those spells that work best for co op healing and randomly get the augment required, or the practically necessary pacification relic to reduce the damage by a measly 20% (inc and outgoing.)

There is revives you can do by sitting on your friends body!... But its limited, and when their out they recharge at such a astronomically slow pace that it means you'll often be waiting minutes to hop back in, if your friends can even make it through the massive hordes to your body. Not great.

It feels like it wants to invoke a bit of Magika in its theme and mechanics and chaos, but it doesn't quite understand why magika's co op and friendly fire was fun. Plus its a little toned down in its power ups and spells/weapons, which is a shame.

The bones are there for something fun, but their design decisions are not promising so far and i'm not sure if they'll change their core poor decision of having friendly fire. For the steep (for the genre) 10$ their asking, I'd wait a year or two and see if it fleshes out. I'll change the review if they fix these issues (primarily removing ff altogether!)

Why is this game using such a ABSURD amount of resources? The vibe just screams of someones early pet project game. Not bad at all, but not worth nearly double the price of vampire survivors.

This game is nuts for asking for 20 bucks for it, and does not justify such a high price tag compared to others of its price range.

That said, its very good simple fun, and highly recommend on $10 or less sale.

Good game for its price, but holy moly the game needs some serious QoL. The game is 90% building in pause time, 10% actually defending, exploring, etc. The system is almost always going to lean hard into spending tons of time building your cool perfect towers, but the way the blueprints don't have organization, will let you place down on rubble forcing you to delete it and try again on another tiny square, the way the building is semi-physics based in the sense you have to build logical supports and cant stack everything on weak foundations, the way your heavily encouraged to build absolutely towering towers to max out defense health, the way the ground is so uneven and unique so you can't often times use the blueprints you made before, the way its incredibly annoying to try to place any soldiers or blocks internally in your structure if something gets broken/moved, etc. Just means that you find yourself building every single defense checkpoint block by block, for 30 minutes for each checkpoint. And usually there are 3-4.

Comparing it to age of darkness/they are billions is a crime against both games. This is lego bastion building with a horde defense attached, and if you come in expecting the high-pace of those games you'll be a bit annoyed like I was. This is a game you take your time admiring how cool your tower looks for a hour, and then maybe fight some low poly horrors once in awhile.

Still, its incredibly unique, has a actual cool campaign, and its very satisfying to see how your defense holds up against the horde. And at a cheap price point to boot on the 20% off sale. I'll list as uneven recommend for now, and might recommend waiting for a bit to see how they improve the QoL.

it's a FANTASTIC game thats brought down to only good by the pvp focused balancing and game structure. I'm sure it appeals to the folks that like ARK and conan exiles and other PVPVE games, but it doesn't for me or my group who play it solely as a PVE game. In that realm, its still very good with cool bosses, aethetics, combat, survival crafting and more. But... So much of it just makes me wish for a overhaul mod that was better catered to making the experience more of a PVE centric game than PVPVE

Pretty damn good with a fantastic core and central elements, but for its price definitely has a lot missing QoL features and some questionable design decisions. I'd put this as a wait to buy, unless you want to take advantage of the sale or are a avid survival citybuilder fan.

Good price tag, addictive game thats simple yet complex. Just a unique fun take on the roguelike + poker genre. Get it for some casual thinking fun.
