As a PC gamer who just got into the Persona series following the release of Persona 4 Golden on steam a couple of years ago, I’ve been dying to play Persona 5 Royal ever since I’ve left the town of Inaba. Rumors about an eventual PC port of P5R have been circulating ever since P4G got released, and after years of the fandom begging Atlus, it’s finally here!

So how is P5R? Overall, it’s a great game! A couple of positives that I’d like to mention:
(+) The quality of life improvements made from P4G is a game changer, it’s so much easier to do a lot of things compared to P4G. In my opinion, this makes P5R the perfect Persona game to start if you’re a beginner to the franchise.
(+) The game is very generous when it comes to time. Compared to other P4G, you have plenty of times to strengthen your confidant with your friends, increase your social stats, and a bunch of other activities.
(+) Most Palaces are a blast to explore, with each one reflecting the personality of its ruler, making it each one very different from the last
(+) The UI is slick, and, despite it’s unique font and layout, is actually incredibly easy to navigate around. The game just oozes with style, creating it’s own identity that sets it apart from other Persona games, or even games in general.
(+) The soundtrack is incredible, I get goosebumps everytime I remember Life Will Change playing as I’m entering Kamoshida’s Palace.
(+) Romance options aplenty! If you’re into that kinda stuff, P5R has 10 romanceable characters who you can do plenty of activities with, be it Christmas dates, valentine dates, white day dates, etc.
(+) You will absolutely get your money’s worth, with the game offering 160+ hours of content, not including the possibility of new game plus.

Though I have to say, this game can be overhyped sometimes, it’s definitely not a 10/10 like a lot of people claim it to be, there’s definitely some negatives, here’s to name a few;
(-) This game is INCREDIBLY easy, compared to P4G, it's a total cakewalk, even on its highest difficulty, this is due to the addition of baton passes and the ambush mechanic, meaning you almost always have the advantage in every fight and can easily exploit enemy weaknesses in the earlier parts of the game. As well as the VIP treatment perk from one of the confidants, allowing you to summon personas far above your character’s levels (assuming you pay the costs), meaning should you have enough money (which is easy to farm), you could summon a level 70 persona when your character is level 50. Not to mention that by the late game, you gain access to Ryuji’s insta kill which straight up trivializes Palace exploration.
(-) It is wayyy too long, to the point where it gets boring sometimes, I find myself thinking “How long is this going to go on?” and taking actual real life breaks from time to time as I’m exploring a Palace or Mementos which is not a good sign.
(-) The story and cast of P5R aren’t the best, it’s a basically just a group of teenagers with little chemistry who got together and take down evil adults, one at a time, with an added twist at the end. Nothing special or memorable, especially when compared to P4G’s stellar story and characters.
(-) This is a bit of a nitpick, but the fact that the third semester of P5R is not canon in P5S is kind of a bummer as I'll be playing it directly after this

Here are some tips (that I’ve learned from my mistakes) to ensure that you get the most out of this game;
1. DO NOT summon any of the DLC Personas (The ones that cast 0 yen to summon for the first time) on your first playthrough. Not only are they incredibly overpowered (even the lower level DLC personas have some of the strongest abilities in the game), but they’ll also mess up persona fusion results, making it harder for you to complete your compendium.
2. It’s okay to rely on helps and guides for certain stuff like classroom questions because most of these are just completely random and useless trivias that won’t ever be used in real life like the meaning of the name of some obscure Japanese historical figure or something. (However if you like these kinds of stuff then good for you!)
3. Prioritize maxing the confidants of non party members first (except for Ohya cause her perks are useless) as some of them have relatively early deadlines, and they have some of the more useful perks compared to the phantom thieves (some notable ones include Yoshida who lets you negotiate more money from shadows, Kawakami who can brew and cook SP items for you, and Chihaya who lets you deepen your bonds with a confidant without passing time).

In the end, is P5R worth it? Yes, definitely. Even at full price I’d wholeheartedly recommend this game to anyone. It's a great entry point into the Persona series and just a great game in general. It’s not perfect, but I’d still give it a solid 8.5/10
