Overwatch 2 seems to have undergone some changes compared to Overwatch 1. One noticeable difference is the removal of the leveling system, which previously allowed players to earn lootboxes and obtain skins without any cost. Now it appears that each skin comes with a price tag of 20€ as most of the content is locked behind a paywall. Additionally they have introduced a Battlepass system that may create a fear of missing out (FOMO) pressuring players to spend money if they haven't played enough to level it up.

Initially there were promises of a Story mode, with its leveling system, which played a role in their decision to retire Overwatch 1. However they later decided against implementing this mode and instead introduced story snippets that last around 30 minutes. Accessing these snippets now comes at a cost of 15€. In contrast in Overwatch 1 these levels were both free and offered opportunities for players to earn lootboxes and receive rewards at no expense.

It's hard not to view this game as an attempt by Blizzard to maximize profits. They have taken away what used to be an rewarding gaming experience from us. Instead we are left with what feels like a downgraded version of Overwatch 1 accompanied by an, in game shop.
