It's UNIRONICALLY what if overwatch was good.

It is no longer this. It's a shame they took a decent foundation and abandoned it for months-long cycles only to come back to make it worse, repeatedly, and now they're finally pulling the plug on it.

But to be honest I'd still rather play it than overwatch. I suppose I'll just have to do neither, what a shame.

Lemme give the dev a suggestion, man.

Scratch the sprint button. Make sprint speed the default speed.

In a game about speed there's literally no reason to ever not go fast, so you're just complicating things by making me hold shift the entire time. I don't want to use accessibility as a bludgeon or anything but I'm kind of a cripple and the sprint not even being on the keybinds menu much less being remappable or toggleable really kills my vibe.

Also why on God's earth am I barely hitting 30 frames on this?

In my second game as killer - I'm sorry, monster - I got down to the last survivor - I'm sorry, teen - and then we scooby doo chased around this giant ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 3 story mansion map for half a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hour because the devs of this game somehow didn't get the memo of how widely hated RPD is and there's no way to force an end game state like the hatch. There's a vision granting objective, sure, but it goes away after an attack and I sucked at following up in a chase in that garbage dump of a building so the guy would just heal up and we're back to square 1. That's not a game force, that's just a strongly worded suggestion.

Skill issue? Yeah, sure. But we shouldn't both be trapped in there forever.

Also the queues are a joke but that's been mentioned plenty. Additionally, I find it extremely strange that there's a pre-game chat but no post-game. I wanted to genuinely apologize to the teens for that trainwreck of an ending, because there's no way that was fun for either of us.
In short, I was really looking forward to VHS, but it absolutely needs some further iteration before I'm getting anything out of it.

I seriously hope the full version has rebindable controls, because I have never once in my life played a game that puts the roll on the right trigger of all places.

Beyond that, the level design is a disaster. On my first run outside the tutorial, one of the first rooms I entered was one involving hitting timed switches on the far side of the room, running back to the entrance, and jumping on platforms the switches moved before they reset. It was more or less impossible with the available mobility options, that is to say, none. I gave up there, so I don't have much else to say.

I also really don't think the kobolds are funny, and I wish the "princess" didn't have so much to say about so little happening.

Completely unenjoyable snail's pace run-n-gun with extremely repetitive and bulletspongey bosses. I have absolutely no idea how people are acting like this is the best thing since Super Contra, I've played free games better than this. You can't even aim your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ gun any direction besides forward, what kind of joke are you trying to pull?

I can't say I was impressed.

My biggest complaint is that aiming felt extremely imprecise (on controller anyway) due to a really weird scaling on stick movement. For how much of the game is spent throwing javelins at wall snakes constantly moving, it would have been nice to have a lock on, or at least a more reliable hitbox. Generally speaking, none of the spells felt good to use against the enemies you have to use them on. Other complaints have been voiced in other reviews.

What I really wanna know is, why is the main menu so insistent that this game should be experienced with headphones? Nothing is done with it. The game has 1 bgm track, even in combat and the boss, that I would describe as "ambient" at best. No directional audio in sound effects or anything, I don't get it.

The final boss of this game really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sucks.
I handled the rest of the game just fine on UV then ended up turning on their journalist godmode after I got tired of being blown up and was still sitting there plinking at the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ for what felt like forever.
I thought I'd come back after the dlc came out, but those reviews are telling.

Edit for dev response: Nice canned message, but if you had actually read the review, it would be clear that I was not talking about the boss of the DLC but the original final boss, Icon of Sin. If I wanted to complain about DLC content, I would do it in a review for the DLC. This does not increase my confidence.

Genuinely impressed that you made a twinstick where not a single one of the available guns feels good to shoot.
The crossbow especially. Barely more base damage than the revolver, for one bullet, with the gimmick of increasing if you stand still. Who the hell gets a chance to stand still in games like this? Absolute nonsense.

Also. Trees being completely invincible, blocking shots, and dealing damage to you on their entire massive sprite is just needlessly hostile. Screw that.

Fun little student game. Simple and effective third-person shooting with a neat time manip gimmick. Big fan of Maya's design. Fairly easy, though.

I'd be glad to see the devs make a full-fledged title someday.
