I play this on the separate PC client and not on Steam, but still wanted to give my full endorsement on here! This is the best and my personal favorite gacha game. Exploration and combat are 10/10, endgame content is consistent and balanced. The devs actually listen to feedback, which makes surveys actually worthwhile to do - features and suggestions I've asked for have actually been implemented.

Best of all: the game only continues to improve in ALL aspects as time goes on - systems, gameplay features, quality of life even graphics - you name it. Combine this with the developers being very open and receptive about feedback makes me feel like any qualms you'd have will eventually be addressed at some point if not already. It actually feels like they re-invest back into the game, and that's reflected not only in new game improvements, but also in the quantity and quality of the content they put out. The content schedule is overall solid - you don't have to wait long, and when there's new stuff, its always plentiful. I've kept up with this game since it launched on May 22 2024 and I can say with the utmost confidence that this is a developer you can genuinely trust; now, why does that matter? Of course, you should never be parasocial with a company, but for a live-service game, a certain level of trust is inevitably a factor for when you decide to spend your time and money.

A great remaster, but cannot recommend in good faith due to constant crashing issues. It happens on both my PC and laptop - zero mods used. Once this is fixed I can happily recommend it.

EDIT: 2 days after I made this "not recommended" review, they released Update 1.1 on June 4th which has seemingly fixed the crash issues - I've played about 10 hours and have not experienced a single crash!

Very cute RPG! As someone who loves reading, this game was a real treat; and the art style, sprites, and music reminded me a lot of Ragnarok Online - it has a lot of heart!

I'll admit, though I was enjoying it a lot, I was skeptical if I wanted to stick with the game and series as time went on. As someone who's already played so many RPGs, I didn't think I could be surprised - I don't want to say much because I think it's better to let new players get floored for when things do get really serious, but trust that everything that you're doing all-throughout has purpose and payoff! And by the end, you'll be reflecting on the journey you just had and be able to truly appreciate what you just experienced. I immediately moved on to the next game and I'm excited to see what comes next!

P.S. there's a turbo button, it's v good
P.P.S. I didn't use the voice mod and it was still incredible (I'll be using it for SC and onwards!), its very easy to get, i highly recommend it
PPPS I want to gush more about this game but I sincerely believe it is best experienced without expectations being set, as blind as possible!

Early Access Review
I do NOT recommend playing it in its current state - but the framework for something great is there; the potential is very high. It's very barebones on the gameplay side of things right now - It still has a LONG way to go.

The roadmap doesn't have enough meaningful updates for 2025. It may be worth revisiting in 2026, but the scope and frequency in the roadmap doesn't give me much hope. The modding community might be able to carry it, but the full kit isn't even available yet.

It was released far too early - even for usual Early Access standards.

The Remembrance of Earth’s Past trilogy is what I consider to be the peak of science fiction. The Dark Forest hypothesis is one of the most fascinating theories in me, and I always believed it held high potential in fiction but has seldom ever been used. This is mainly due to the concept being rooted in hard science fiction, and most audiences tend to want and need a story that focuses on characters rather than the collective struggle of mankind as a whole (See: Xenoblade Chronicles X story not being well received generally, but considered a huge hit for hard Sci-Fi fans).

In 40K, at least to my understanding, the universe is this and more: humanity is not only the underdog, but also a woodcutter in this forest. Not only are the xenos extremely dangerous, but space itself is constantly hostile due to the ever looming presence of the Warp. Traversing realspace brings both psychological and physical horrors everytime, always posing an extremely high risk of total annihilation. The corruption of a single individual on a planet can easily snowball into the entirety of the planet and star system falling to Chaos. Xenos that possess technology and capabilities beyond one’s wildest imaginations with their finger ever present on the trigger is a real danger.

Under these circumstances, the extreme ideas presented in this universe can make good sense, given the grander narrative - but how extreme these ideas go, has resulted in endless debate and discussion over what’s right or wrong, or what’s necessary versus what isn’t. The nature of this is super compelling to me in a way that you can use your headcanon for an immersive playthrough of your choosing, as grand as your imagination allows: are the harsh rules of the Imperium necessary given the extreme dangers posed to mankind, or will you try to go down a merciful path in a universe that brutally punishes such naivety?

One has to remember that this is a work of fiction, and as such, will not always abide by grounded realism fully. If you need to suspend your disbelief and are able to, you’ll have an amazing time. If you don’t need to in the first place, you’ll have an even more amazing time. At the end of the day, I think the lore is really really cool and wildly fun to imagine. Owlcat’s writing takes the setting seriously and allows you to easily find yourself deeply immersed in a very imaginative, grim far future.

In terms of gameplay, it shares similarities with the likes of turn-based strategy games like Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy Tactics, Super Robot Wars, but with character building options and depth comparable to D&D like Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous and Baldur’s Gate 3. If you enjoy having many decisions in building characters, you'll have a great time here. If you tend to get paralyzed by having too many choices, well... it's a CRPG!

3 friends and I have been experiencing de-sync issues during every game together, and it's been frustrating because we have yet to finish a game to its end. We're unable to figure out how to reduce the chance of this happening, but clearly something needs to be done from the developers' end to make multiplayer more stable. The 3 of us only play to play together, and we cannot do that. Because of that, I have to leave a negative review. Please do something about this. If you look it up, you'll see that this is actually a common issue. Big shame because the game is incredibly fun; but we just can't play it because of desync!

REVIEW EDIT ON 9/13/24: A patch released today with fixing desync included in the patch notes. However, the desync issues still persist.

One of my favorite RPGs of all time! It's beginner friendly enough to get you comfortable and familiar with CRPGs - I've been able to apply what I've learned from playing BG3, to other CRPGs and now being able to pick them up easily - thanks to this game, I've been playing other CRPGs like Pathfinder and Rogue Trader and enjoying the CRPG genre much much more than ever before - my best recommendation is to do an organic playthrough without a completionist mindset and rolling with the consequences of whatever happens, but most importantly, make sure to go with a character and class fantasy that really speaks to you, as this game does an amazing job at immersion, absorbing you in a way that many games cannot!
