Here's a hot take: Eternal is an overall improvement over Doom 2016.
Eternal has better and more lively gameplay, a refined and more variable artstyle, better levels and enemy designs. Mick Gordon ripped himself a new one making the OST, which is quite obvious, as seen by the results. All this combined makes for a more memorable game, all levels are unique with specifically crafted music for them, all arena encounters present a challenge, the designs of new enemies are inspired(specifically I love Marauders). Oh and the three new levels in DLC №1 give us perhaps the best Doom experience ever and the overall package gives us the best FPS experience. Period.
But stil I have a few gripes: the unnecessary and unskippable cutscenes that show the MOST OBVIOUS stuff, the sound design of guns, which sound like BB-guns compared to their 2016 counterparts and the letdown of an online mode, which is unbalanced at it's core(trust me, i played 50+ hours of battlemode).
Overall, it's a fantastic game with awesome DLC and great prospects for the future.
9/10
