Stop! Stop increasing the game install size! Learn to compress stuff! Look at Hitman WoA, they went from Hitman 2 and 1 weighing 120 GB to Hitman 3+2+1 weighing only about 70 GB. Learn from them!

I love the original tank controls, but one thing missing in Tomb Raider 2 (the one I mainly played back in the day and still do on my PS3) is how you had two buttons for precise walking: R1 would allow you to walk forward/backward and use the left and right directions to rotate and walk, and R2 would allow you to either walk forward/backward or strafe left/right.

The thing they've done here in this remaster is put those functions in a single button, namely R1: to walk and rotate, you must first take a step forward, and then start turning. If you simply press left while holding R1, you will start strafing, as if you were holding R2 back in the PS1.

This is counter to my muscle memory from the PS1, where I could both walk forward and rotate while still holding R1. In this new version, I must let go of R1 if I want to rotate in place, which is weird and confusing, and creates the risk of Lara starting to run forward if I'm using the analog stick instead of the d-pad.

Another thing that is missing is the ability to use PlayStation button icons. Frankly, it is unacceptable for games to be releasing in 2024 without this option.

I wish the developers would fix these issues before my refund window closes, because I really want to play these games.

In most other regards, this is a beautiful port.

Was telling a friend about this game and just recalled something: the underwater navigation, which is pretty much the core of the gameplay, is actually pretty enjoyable and a neat little challenge. When you feel like you're mastering it, the places you must navigate to get harder to squeeze by, and remain exciting especially as the pressure (hehe) starts mounting up on you.
There's this guy I follow on Twitter who writes a lot about writing, and I recall this thread of his about how storytelling is compelled by drama. Character wants to do <thing>, but he can't because <reason> and he must do <other thing>. He says this creates tension which creates drama and is the basis of good storytelling.

Iron Lung embraces that in its gameplay. I must go there, but I only have limited ways of deducing where I am, and where I'm headed. There are things that lurk in the sea of blood, but I can't see around myself except in a very limited fashion. There are other plot reasons to feel dread, but I will spare you the details so I don't spoil anything. Solid game.

Horrible, unplayable performance on a game that used to work properly on a wide range of computers. Now the frame rate is all uneven and the game just plays like garbage. Rest in peace, Counter-Strike.

God-tier art direction, really delivers the cyberpunk dystopia like no other game that I have played (does so infinitely better than Cyberpunk 2077, for instance), and makes me nostalgic for '90s sci-fi and '90s isometric PC games. The setting feels quite unique for the genre, and is very cyberpunk in the sense that this is a world that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sucks to live in, everyone is a lowlife struggling to survive, and violence is rampant and normalized. Unlike Cyberpunk, this game really wears its themes, and doesn't stupidly try to shoehorn modern 2020s/2010s culture in for reasons of "please buy this game, dear young person who is not into this genre"; rather, it shows the anachronistic fantasy from the '80s and '90s in all its glory (or complete opposite thereof).

But all that GOTY-material potential is hampered by the game being, uuh, essentially a twin stick shooter and not much of an RPG - despite having world-building like that of an RPG; lacking refinement on gameplay as well as level and encounter design; and having a lot of UI that is just too difficult to read. This is a game in which some of its individual parts are of divine quality, but the sum of those with the other, more amateurish parts, doesn't come together quite nicely.

Still, it's worth experiencing if you have the patience to overlook the flaws.

One of the greatest games of all time, but it's ruined by audio that has no reason to be this ultra compressed, and a color palette that has been washed out by whatever they did with the gamma in this release. Did you know I played this game on PS2 using a surround system? This game had SUPERB audio even back in 2004. Why did they do this now?

Do you know what the solution to the audio problem is? You download a mod that is the original PS3 HD Collection audio and replace the Steam release files with the PS3 audio. Do you know what you can do instead?

Play the game on PS3, or PS2. At least you will have the original pressure-sensitive controls.

I play with a controller, but still: this game is therapeutic.

Assetto Corsa is like the Civilization of car games, where instead of saying "just one more turn" to yourself at 10 PM and then noticing the sun rising outside your window, it's "just one more lap" around the Nordschleife (which unfortunately is not included in the base game, you need the DLC, but it's worth it; Spa is also pretty addictive).

The Ferrari 458 is an absolute beast, I'll tell you that.

It's Battlefield 3 but better (although the Paris map still sucks), with even a few elements of Squad lightly sprinkled in. 256 player matches are AWESOME, by the way, with maps getting more open and full of space for nice sniping duels and vehicle combat.

My opinion may be controversial for Battlefield fans, but I'd like BattleBit to be a bit more like Squad: I would prefer it to have suppression effects (as Battlefield 3 had, if I recall it correctly), with weapons being less accurate but more lethal. This would make it more justifiable to shoot in the general direction of the enemy without necessarily hitting them, but still give great importance to maneuvering around a suppressed enemy, and would maybe instill more teamwork and communication. This of course would encourage too much use of sniper rifles, so those would perhaps have to be limited per team as they are in Squad... but maybe that would be too much for a game that is simply trying to be a better Battlefield.

At any rate, BattleBit Remastered is a really fun game! Sniping is also extremely enjoyable, what with bullet drop and the ability to zero your sights to a given distance and all.

I originally bought this on Origin because it was dirt cheap, and even then tried to refund it, because the game literally is unplayable in whichever way you try to approach it:

- if you try to play it with a controller, there's an absolutely MASSIVE dead zone for the analog sticks, to the point where the right stick is almost completely tilted before the camera even slightly starts moving
- with keyboard and mouse, if you have vsync off, the mouse gets super low sensitivity only where you're walking in any direction; with vsync on, the frame rate gets weirdly low, like 40 FPS (feels faster than 30), but there is some massive input delay, much more massive than you'd be used to with most games. As I said, this game is not in a playable state, and EA should've fixed it before setting off on developing a remake.

Originally when I requested a refund on Origin, they took the game from my library but didn't refund the money, lmao. Since it was such a small charge I didn't bother going further after it, but, uuuh... ♥♥♥♥ EA for pulling that on me. I'm buying it now because I want to have the game in my library, but I wouldn't recommend you buy it. Go play Resident Evil 4 or Doom 3 instead, or play it on a console.
