I dislike horror games, this game is no exception to that. I just don't like em, I'm a pansy.

The plot, visuals, characters and atmosphere were enough to carry me through. An incredibly cohesive, disturbing, memorable and dare I say it enjoyable experience. It left a rather nice taste in my mouth.

£15 for 2 characters since you won't want to play cell max or the gammas anyways. Slay the spire is £6.79 right now, Balatro is £12.79. Just go buy a whole indie game.

I've always wanted an esports manager, and came in expecting that and was disappointed. I was however absolutely engrossed with the game itself, it plays well, has just enough depth, main thing it lacks is difficulty. If you enjoy card based roguelites it'll get you hooked, if you like MOBAs it will feel very flavourful. It has one core gameplay loop that it performs very well.

Play matches -> Train -> Play championship -> Readjust strategies for the new update -> Repeat

While it's not an esports manager, that side of things is well done honestly. You can keep your players around instead of them hitting a hard cap so you can build a connection to them, a lot of the stats are more reflectively of them being "better at the game" by buffing accuracy and farming rather than "they do more damage because they're a higher level". My main complaint about that is that the AI art looks very generic but realistically you spend most of the time in game hardly seeing it.

More impressed than I expected to be so far, just running through the campaign at the moment.

Something it gets very right is clarity: If something is going to crit when used you get a (slightly too subtle) wibbly rainbow around it; if something is attacking you can easily see who it's going to attack and for how much (although it would be nice if it could be shown summed as one number too); Most abilities only need a single line to get the jist of. It's all simple and works well, for someone used to having to do mental maths with Slay the Spire it's a lovely addition.

The main bad thing is that the dialogue cutscenes can't be skipped, a lot of animations are quite long and repeat often. Animation at the start of battle -> Check shop -> close shop -> watch animation again is a bit of a pain. Personally I'd prefer if the shop were just a little side pane that can be opened and if you never had to click "prepare" before a battle and it was just assumed you'd want to move skills around. It all makes the out of battle experience a little tedious when you just want to get into the action.

Additionally things have felt quite easy so far but maybe that changes later or in the master raids. At £15 it's no masterpiece, but it's definitely fun and worth some time to check out.

EDIT: Also sounds like someone left the metronome on in the music for the water campaign so I had to play it on mute, please fix that it's a nightmare.

I'll be honest, this game is overpriced. Maybe I'm old but paying Anything over £40 for a game always feels wrong.

But as someone who grew up on Budokai Tenkaichi 3 this is literally the game of my dreams.

I tried to like it, I really did.

As a programmer the problems are just too easy, except when they're impossible. Certain puzzles you cannot get a gold medal in without upgrades (https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/app/619150/discussions/0/2521353993639226274/).

Then add in the really small amount of screen space you're given, and the fact that converting each individual block into a function (called a DLL in game) requires a lot of switching between views AND has a limited space (im at 3 DLLs available) and I just don't want to play anymore.

There's programmers who spend days and hours getting their neovim/vscode/whatever config just right so they can code comfortably, I cannot play this game comfortably.

Also it doesn't really teach much, which is a smaller problem given it's not what I play games for.

This review will inevitably change when this is fixed, but I cannot play this game due to the height calibration not being manually adjustable.

I'm short IRL, and if i touch the ground in real life my hand is hovering a good foot over the floor in game. Megaton rainfall didn't make me motion sick but this height difference does for some reason.

Only 1 hr in game, but the presentation, gameplay and basically everything feels top notch. My only real complaint is the arenas feel a bit too small for the suicide bots. Oh and the one grab weapon I've got to play with felt inconsistent and meh (nails more than make up for it though they feel so good).

In terms of polish and presentation this is probably one of the best VR games out there, it doesn't feel like a tech demo playing with the concept of VR. This is a polished indie game, at a steal of a price, that takes great advantage of its medium.

Edit: An addendum, the final boss and final level ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sucks.

Final Level: So there's this issue with the AI where they are "active" as they spawn, presumably to stop you killing them straight out of spawns as they tend to be able to attack you quite quickly out the gates. This is normally completely fine. However in the final level you are in a very cramped space where they drop from the ceilings, come from the floors, come from doors, all around you while there are also traps. Without the room to be mobile, it feels quite stat checky. There are heals during it which kind of alleviates this, but balance be damned it's just not fun.

Final Boss: It's a gank boss that clouds your vision and is INCREDIBLY tanky. I could absolutely mince enemies in the lead up to it and it probably took me several minutes just to kill two of them. They also use the most annoying effect in the game, blast wave. There aren't many projectiles in the game, but those that exist are loud and very visible but not blast wave. The concept is cool, the design is sadly more goofy than threatening.

That final sprint aside, fantastic game.

I tried to like this game, and I might even keep trying to like it but I cannot recommend it.

The meta progression feels like a chore. While Monkey Knowledge in BTD 6 feels like it enhances your play but isn't essential, im feeling like talents here are absolutely required to make meaningful progress. It makes your first few runs feel disposable and boring since you are so aware you won't really get anywhere

The hex building would be cool if it weren't so heavy on the RNG. The start of the map is RNG as are the hexes you are given, and while adapting around that is fun to a point, the lack of control is frustrating.

The towers are mostly just boring with boring upgrades. Arrow, cannon, arrow but held by a person, sword, yawn.

The worst part of all however is the lack of targetting controls. They have multiple types of enemy (flying, land and water) but give no way to decide your targeting. You can watch a tonne of boats slide right into your castle while all your towers are busy shooting land enemies that aren't even close yet.

The core idea of a rogue-lite TD is cool, the hex building on paper is cool, but the execution just feels lame.
