A damn fine point-and-click space cowboy cop-on-the-edge noir adventure game. A very unique and fluid implementation of real-time shooting mechanics. Top-notch story telling, great voice acting, awesome art and environments and good soundtrack.

Highly recommend.

This game is awesome. Picked it up on a whim and I'm glad I did. Perfect balance of rogue-lite/deck-building combat. Small-dose combat that let's me play for as little as five minutes and still feel challenged and rewarded but deep enough to play for hours without boredom. Awesome, cutesie cel-shaded graphic style.
9/10!

Early Access Review
UPDATE 12 June 2019:

I deeply apologize to the dev's for taking so long in updating this review. Since I last reviewed the game it's seen a massive improvement for the better. The game is now becoming what it was envisioned to become.

It runs way smoother, the melee feels great, the gun-play feels awesome (using the sniper was especially satisfying), and it's harrowing af at times.

I can comfortably say I recommend this game wholeheartedly now, and I'm stoked to see where it goes from here! I was reminded to make this update after the most recent major update, which I can't wait to try out. :P

This game has some of the most dedicated developers I've ever seen. The amount of love they have for this project is visible in how they engage their community with transparancy and consistency. This game, once everything is ironed out, is going to be the best zombie VR game out there but it's got some ways to go. Definitely wishlist and follow this one.

Sadly though, I can't recommend this yet. I know it's in early access but when the tutorial is unplayable and there are more gamebreaking bugs for comfort still I have to suggest to give this one more time.

My clips still clip (no pun intended) out of my guns. The pointer to make menu selections breaks and points down and away from where it should be pointing. The tutorial doesn't move past the first window where it says to push your watch with the trigger no matter how many times I try. The gun angle completely breaks sometimes so when you go to aim it points in the air making you have to reload back in, though reloading in and out of levels does sometimes fix this.

It's just, with all of this said and done it's not fun yet.

In my first hour in Chernarus I was held up at gunpoint, indoctrinated into a cult who saved my life, crashed out of the server, tried another, spent three hours finding my IRL friends with little knowledge of the geography, found guns with no bullets, found bullets for other guns, died, respawned far away, finally found my friends, found bullets for the correct gun, survived an entire day, built a fire in an abandoned building, cooked some chicken, accidentally shot my friend point blank with a shotgun attracting every zombie in town, tried to fight them off, retreated back inside, bandaged up and ate some codeine, held out until morning, survived an entire night. Satisfaction and relief ensued.

All said and done, I had a lot of fun playing this. I met some people who were new also, ran into bandits who shot on sight, and had some really memorable gaming experiences. Even though it is indeed a buggy mess, if you like slow-paced survival sims with the constant risk of losing everything you've worked for and with (so far for me) fairly memorable player interaction then play it!

I haven't been disappointed yet and from what it appears to me, the dev's really do care even if they struggle at some point. What they are doing (creating a new engine entirely from scratch) is a fairly large endeavor so I can't fault them for running into some roadblocks at times.

Highly recommend, though it's definitely a niche game.

This game is absolutely incredible except for one immersion-breaking flaw. There is absolutely NO PROXIMITY CHAT FOR MULTIPLAYER. It's such a bummer, too. I hyped this last update up to so many friends, online and off, and for good reasons. The conent is awesome and terrifying.

Unfortunately, I have yet to play it because multiplayer is where it's at for me but the only way to talk to one another in-game is with walkie talkies... even if you are literally three meters away from each other. Like, how hard is it really to implement a proximity chat? I realize that this might be more challenging than I think, but when basically every other multiplayer crafting game has it somethings weird. Having to use a third-party VoiP app like Discord absolutely breaks the immersion, and when playing a horror game immersion is everything, if you aren't immersed it's not as scary.

I honestly probably won't play until this is fixed and I won't be recommending it unless someone wants to play strictly single-player. Anti-cheat is well and good but what point is it if I can't talk to anyone in game without having to have my walkie talkie out literally all the time?

I'll change this review if it ever get's changed, but until then I'll be playing other games.

Really great game! But shame on the dev's for charging FORTY DOLLARS for THE SAME GAME in Vr. What about all of us who own the game and also VR, we have to buy it yet again? I realize I only have .6 hours on it but when I saw the VR option on Oculus I immediately came over to Steam to install it and play it in full (finally, long overdue) only to find that a game that is $60 (with the DLC) doesn't let you play it in VR without buying the "VR version" which, as far as I can tell, is the same game just... in... VR...

Nice money grab Devolver.

Absolutely phenomenal. One of the best base-building survival games there is. I played it exclusively in VR up until recently and all I can say about most everything is wow. Some of the controls are a bit janky and there is some clipping, but the environment, the tension, the sense of the unknown and discovery is so well done that everything else can easily be overlooked.

This isn't a horror game but this one has scared me more than any recent game. No jump scares of course, but man is the deep ocean abyss absolutely terrifying at times when you're running out of air and all of a sudden in the depths you run into a creature the likes of which you have never seen.

Two watery thumbs up!

Great port! I've heard a lot of negative reviews about the PC port, but I found no issues! Mind you, I played the game with a controller, and I recommend that. I feel that with a keyboard and mouse, unlike the GTA titles, this would feel slightly clunky, BUT I highly recommend playing with the mouse next to you.

I recommend that because being able to use the mouse in the notebook screens and during interrogations actually adds a bit of immersion in my opinion as for me, it more closely simulates actually navigating a notebook.

If you haven't played this, please, do yourself a favor and do so. As far as investagative-detective games, this one really sets the bar on so many levels.
