Early Access Review
[EDIT 2: In case you're wondering, Intercept Games was shut down, so any further development is dubious at best, while the game still lacks all of the promised features. Literally just go play KSP 1 with mods for a richer experience.
Also, we now know that the reason the development failed so much was in part due to the fact that it went through FOUR different teams (so far, if it continues after IG shutdown that'll be through a fifth team...), only the penultimate of which had anyone connected to the original game. Yes, they went through years of development without asking anyone from Squad how the original code works, while insisting to use it.]

[EDIT 1: After the upcoming update (that took them a YEAR) the game will be almost as complete as the original - but still not quite, and it still won't have the promised new features. In other words, you're still better off playing the original KSP with a few mods than KSP2 after the update.
Remember that the game was meant to come out - in full release, not early access - in 2020.]

This isn't early access. This is the first semi-playable internal demo build. At the price of the full game. Which will increase, as the devs already announced.
Bugs galore, clunky UI, vessels exploding on load, pink textures blinking everywhere. Runs poorly on a PC that exceeds recommended specs for "high" settings. Is missing not only ALL the promised new features, but also majority of original KSP's features.

The entire development of the game is one large failure, and I am pretty sure that after they fired the whole original team halfway through development they started the entire project from scratch again. Don't let the devs fool you - for all they talk about loving KSP and such, this is currently nothing but a money grab, and if you buy it you're only enabling them.

Wait 2-3 years. Maybe by then we'll get *some* of the promised features and a sale that sells this for a price it deserves (so, about -60%?)

EDIT: Steam wants me to update my review after a few hundred extra hours, so I'll have you all know that I now have almost 700 mods installed and am STILL finding more of Tynan's stupid, unfun, unimmersive design decisions to patch.

Don't get it unless you have no problem with modding games to be what you want them to be.

Vanilla game is almost unplayable, because Tynan thinks "randomness" is the same as "storytelling" and he balances the game around the 0.1% of exploiters rather than 99.9% of normal players.

That being said, if you're willing to discard his obnoxious """creative""" vision and treat Rimworld as merely a framework to build your own game in with mods, you can have a lot of fun with it.

Nobody asked for this, nobody needed this, we already had most of this in mods, it took up development time that could and should have been dedicated to make the game actually playable for people who (unlike Tynan's """testers""") don't base their whole gameplay on killboxes and cheese.
