Jeez what a snoozefest. The game is way too short and WAY too easy. You're spending at least 3 hours of the total runtime walking around and just hearing concepts of a scary pig man. I don't know what happened between starting production for this and it's release, but this is the most unpolished Amnesia has ever been. The story was the best part, but that one good aspect was the only thing driving me to continue... Everything else surrounding it just stank.

Mouthwashing is the freakiest indie title released all year. The game really knows how to throw you into a tail spin and apply horror-game pressure simultaneously. Sequences of repeating corridors, rusty pipes haphazardly clumping together, fleshy horse monsters, and mushy, spaghettified textures are in abundance. All while juggling a psychological lost-in-space horror setting. Well-groomed character writing and dialogue form a compelling, yet crooked story of downward spiral madness, betrayal, and jealousy between the crew. These twisted elements all come together as robustly as a game like this can.

Mouthwashing's brevity does work against it though, it could've benefited greatly from being a bit longer.
Point-of-view transitions can feel a bit heavy-handed at times too. There are opportunities for the player to establish deeper connections with these characters, but instead transition prematurely to the next scene. Shifting tone on a dime is pretty difficult to pull off; Mouthwashing doesn't always stick the landings here unfortunately.

Yeah this game is a banger, I was floored. I highly recommend. 8.7/10

The best $20 investment I've made towards a game in awhile, but only on account of my nostalgic soft spot for the original I grew up with and cherished.

It has it's strokes of genius, but it's gameplay and story issues are manifold. A cripplingly unpolished mess with a terrible resolution to it all.

It's a short one, and the mid-way swimming sections of the game are padded out a bit. I also would've liked more opportunities to interact with lockers and distraction items.

That's where my complaints end though. A few significant ways Still Wakes the Deep sets itself apart from it's source material is it's dense character writing. The relatable sibling-like banter between you and your crew mates feel organic and authentic. You can really feel the connection between all of these characters, and the impact of the loss of them one-by-one can be heard in the remaining voices.

The visuals are also GREAT, the color schemes and wide shots boast beautiful color palettes. There's even a breather moment where you gaze above you at a spiraling web of glistening alien flesh and unsettled dust particles ascending an elevator from the Leg sections, gorgeous (and a brilliant foreshadow for what's to come at the end)

The sequences of events/monster encounters are well paced. Still Wakes the Deep places it's concentration on cinematic vibes at the forefront and I'm messing with it. A fantastic psychological horror game that deserves more recognition.

To my surprise, Arrowhead is putting their backs into creating new content for this game. They're clearly passionate in keeping Helldivers 2 fresh. So much so, that I'm not given enough time to give it up before new content releases, which is a VERY good thing. Despite the backlash, despite Sony's slimy past behavior, despite Helldivers 2 being unavailable in a good chunk of the world... Arrowhead can still regain my attention in an instant.

The most overrated video game I've played in recent memory. The plot is weighted down by choices that don't actually have an impact of endgame outcomes. The story also doesn't work if you hate Chloe, to whom I thought was an insufferable little rugrat throughout. The characters I gave a damn about and related to most with were the ones suffering on the sidelines. Their lives are ruined by timeline twists and many perilous strings of events transpiring from the main character wanting to save Chloe. Only to find out in the end, saving Chloe is fruitless, and life was better off for Arcadia Bay if she just died (LOL!) I get it's a product of it's time, but who would've thought crafting a subversive, down-to-earth, rebellious main character like Chloe would have such a lackluster outcome.

My favorite 3D platforming game, and it's not even close. The story writing, characters, art style, and jokes are brilliant and memorable. There's not a minute of filler in this thing; there's new psi powers, combat strats, and beautiful set pieces on every progression milestone. This is Tim Schafer's magnum Opus, and I was smiling ear-to-ear through every second of it. A true cult-classic. 10/10

It's far from perfect, lots of polishing was needed. Some of the games core elements can get campy and goofy at times also. It's still a lot of fun to play, and I can see myself sinking plenty of time into this one. This game does a really good job at making you feel like RoboCop; shooting off heads of drug-trafficking criminals with the auto-9, and throwing motorcycles to cause explosions. Even the over-the-top gore factor is reminiscent of the classic films, and that certainly helps to make combat feel satisfying. It's a surprisingly good release from this year, and far surpassed my expectations. It's very humble, and you can tell this game was made with heart and passion by the developers, I'm here for it all the way. Don't miss out on this one! 7/10
