The idea here is really cool, but there is simply just not enough content here for me to recommend it to anybody. I really enjoyed the short time I spent with this game, but right when I was getting really interested it ended.

Looking forward to seeing what this developer makes in the future.

Warning: You might have to mess around with the game files and community patches to support your resolution.

Fun open world, 3rd person platforming and combat. The story is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awful, and none of the characters are likeable or interesting. If you don't care about the story, the dark, angsty, monotonous tone of the game will become very draining.

Some parts of the game are extremely difficult, and every time I overcame such challenges I never felt a sense of accomplishment. It was never a matter of problem solving or honing my skills, but rather a matter of fluke, or exploiting one of game's poorly designed mechanics.

What made me stay to the end was the freedom and power the game provides you. Sprinting up the side of a building at 60 kmph while throwing cars at old ladies is a unique experience, one that I have found nowhere else.

Also apparently it runs terribly on AMD card, but mine seemed to handle it fine. (390)

Recommended to those who like action-platformers with a focus on combat, and can deal with terrible stories and messing around with config files. Get it on sale.

First person platforming is really hard to get right, but A Story About My Uncle absolutely nails it.

The jumps are so huge, and the mid-air redirection is so lenient that I never missed any jumps that I thought I was going to land. Whenever I ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up it was my own fault. The game-feel is also pretty good which helps make the platforming really fun.

While the graphical fidelity is not exactly state-of-the-art, the art style more than makes up for it.

The environments and scenery are beautiful from begining to end. It's only when the story sections appear with in-game animated characters that you remember that this is a low budget game. The character animations leave a lot to be desired, as does the voice acting.

With better voice-acting and maybe a more memorable soundtrack, this game would be absolutely stellar. As it stands, it's just pretty damn good.

I would recommend this game to absolutely anybody, especially those who enjoy platformers.

Early Access Review
Every update makes this game worse. It's literally unplayable for the majority of users at the moment.

In development for over 2 years, fuelled by tens of millions of dollars, and yet the outcome is downright pathetic.

I cannot recommend that anybody buy this game. The dream is over. Go home.

I absolutely adore this game.

Good music, nice art, hilarious and nonsensical story and incredibly fun mechanics that light up the child-like parts of my brain.

Playing stealthy is definitely my favourite method, but the great thing about this game is there is nothing stopping you from smashing every window (and person) you see. I just wish it was longer.

I would recommend this game to literally anyone.

Visuals
For a simple puzzle experience, this game has a stunning yet simplistic visual and aesthetic design. Almost every object in the game is a cube of some kind, yet the game still presents itself with a lot of character. There is a retro, slightly glitchy, almost VHS vibe here. Collecting bonus cubes, for example, makes the screen fizz out, desyncing the RGB channels for a split second. The menus, backgrounds, text, sounds and music all follow that aesthetic, and fit together delightfully.

Sound
As above, the music and sounds fit perfectly with the aesthetic of the game. On top of that the music is also just, really damn good. There's a fair amount of variety too, more than I originally expected. Tasty grooves, moody analogue synth drones, retro drum hits, bleeps and bloops, all fitting well with the pace of each level. The sound effects fall in line with the same sound palette as the music; clompy tapping sounds as you move, clicks as you enable switches and interact with the environment and cheerful electronic bloops as you absorb collectables.

The whole soundtrack is available here for free or to pay what you want for. [ninomojo.bandcamp.com]

Control
The controls are quite unusual at first, due to the isometric nature of the game and the fact that your cube actually has a realistic, weighty feeling to the way it moves. When you first start playing sometimes you think you'll tip over onto the next square only to fall backwards to your death. You get used to the controls pretty quickly, and once you do the game feels great. Moving around feels logical and satisfying, and the great sound effects as you click-clomp your way through the grid-based levels adds a lot to the game-feel.

Level Design
Near perfect. It starts off very easy, allowing you to get used to the controls and mechanics. Every level teaches you a new mechanic or introduces new ways to use elements you’re already familiar with. The first half of the game is very relaxing, but never boring. It does eventually ramp up and present a decent challenge, with the extended and bonus levels especially. Towards the end the game drops the pretense of introducing a new idea with each level, and instead becomes all about the challenge. There are a few levels that took me even multiple days to complete with all the collectables. My only wish is that there was a level editor for community-made maps, as this game seems perfect for it.

Why It Might Not Be for You
There are a lot of movement based puzzles, which challenge both your reflexes and problem solving skills. Some people will not like this, but for me the balance between movement and problem solving is ideal. Frequent checkpoints allow for the level design to surprise you and be somewhat cheeky (and funny). I don't find this annoying but I imagine some people might think it to be unfair.

TL;DR
A well designed movement-focused puzzle game with a nice aesthetic and good music. Recommended for anyone who enjoys puzzle games. A great game to just sit down for 10 minutes and beat a few levels, but it also lends itself quite well to long play sessions.

Context
I'm a huge Adventure Time fan, but generally not into this sort of game.

The Good
They have the voice actors from the show which is nice. The art style is nice (but unfortunately let down by the graphical fidelity). It runs fine too. That's about it.

The Bad
Ignoring the fact that this used to be a free browser game (http://www.cartoonnetwork.com.au/games/adventure_time/epic-quest/) and hasn't changed drastically since that iteration, this game is boring, repetitive, lazy and cheap. It looks like crap, controls like crap, feels like crap and sounds like crap. This game sort of feels like it was made by people who do really care about the show, and wanted to make something that does it justice, but there simply wasn't enough money or talent to do so.

Visuals
While the art style is good, the graphical quality is terrible and there are "jaggies" everywhere you look. Each stage has a single, static, unfathomably low resolution backdrop. http://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=423231818 The levels from each world look very similar, and there are not many landmarks to help you remember where you are. This isn't helped by the lack of a mini-map.

Control
The controls are fairly responsive, but the animations don't flow well into each other, which along with other things, results in really bad game-feel. Running around and fighting does not feel fun. I find myself actively avoiding enemies just because they simply aren't fun to kill. The camera nauseatingly jerking back and forth as you change directions, and vibrating slightly when you run in diagonals does not help the cause. Nothing in this game feels fun; the only enjoyment you get comes from completing tasks and advancing through the stages.

Sound
The sound design was put together in an obvious rush. Sound effects cut abruptly in and out, play at seemingly random volumes and sound like they were pulled straight from a stock library with little to no afterthought. Although the voice actors do a decent job, the dialogue during cutscenes is riddled with pops and clicks. The music is clearly trying to simulate the style of the cartoon, with beeps, boops, clicks and melodies played in unprocessed analogue synths. The sentiment is nice, but it falls short, sometimes sounding less Adventure Time-esque and more midi file-esque.

TL;DR
The combat isn't fun enough, and the enemies not versatile enough to make up for how mind-numbingly repetitive this game is. Once you've played the first 3 levels, you've experienced most of what you're going to get out of the rest of the game.

This game isn't worth your time, or your money.

For two years a bug has prevented me and others from playing this game, and the developer is silent. Waste of money.

The Good
This game is full of good ideas, and is short enough that you never get bored of the mechanics. The visuals are pretty good, if only a bit washed out, but that's intentional I guess. I actually think the game looks a bit better on "low" because the colour filter is removed, but with it so are the pretty lighting effects. The story is quite compelling, and it has a unique take on interactive story-telling. The music and sounds are nice, fitting and well-implemented, the game-feel is pretty good and for the most part I can recommend this game to anyone who likes puzzle games or platformers...

The Bad
But I do have one enormous gripe with it. It has an obnoxious tendency to constantly take control away from the player. This is very common with games nowadays but it is so bad here that I got annoyed and stopped playing at one point, just because of it. I don't think there is a single 5 minute stretch of gameplay without a cutscene, or extremely slow camera-pan across a level to point something out. Even standing on buttons triggers a bloody cutscene, and not just the first time; every time. I get that you need to show the player what each button triggers, but it's better to naturally design the level so that the player can notice it in-game. Or at least only have the cutscene play the first time.

Most of the triggered cutscenes are there for seemingly no reason, and the game would have looked almost identical if it just played out in-game. Sometimes the game simply freezes you in place while a character speaks with absolutely no camera angle changes.

If it wasn't for this one annoying tendency, I would have absolutely adored this game.

TLDR
Great puzzle-platformer with a unique mechanic. Looks and sounds good, controls well. Unfortunate amount of pointless cutscenes.

Exactly what it says on the tin. An unofficial update to Half-Life 2 that adds new lighting effects, background scenery and bug-fixes without affecting the style or mood of the original game. It's so subtle and carefully designed that most of the time you won't notice the changes until you go back and look at the original (at which point it's very obvious).

This is the best way to play Half-Life 2.
