I think this game deserves more love. It's like the Definition Edition we managed to get and not see. Sure, it's not a perfect one but I say it's a good one.

I realised my initial apprehensions that I felt about it at the start were trivial. They were mostly to do with UI and other such minor features that the original had. I then could enjoy it--apart from its departure from its iconic soundtrack!

Four new drivers* (derby mode is WAY more fun), better graphics, Time Trial mode in career, a few new cars with minor changes to some existing ones, and a new mode. How are these not objectively better? I found the wiki/Fandom helpful for the actual breakdown of all the changes.

So onto the only bad part: its soundtrack. With all due respect to the new soundtrack's various artists, I think the problem here is that the original's OST was that great. Some of the new songs were okay-ish. By the time I reached the end of my playthrough, it dawned on me: why not just play the original's OST separately on a music player while muting the game's music?

There! The one reason stopping you from playing this can be solved so easily if you're so inclined. I can at least say I gave enough time to this one's OST while I regretted figuring out doing this "hack" so late.

I managed to finish career mode here and not in the original. That should say something. I usually got bored at the grand finals at least twice (That's why the original has more playtime than this at the time of writing).

It's worth mentioning this has Steam Achievements (pretty cool ones too) unlike the original (at the time of writing) though it has less to do with the game per se.

*The four drivers: 1. A woman from "Underground street racing" (Sounds to me she's come from Need for Speed. Let's show her how we roll in Flatout). 2. Another former musician whose skill is somewhat like Katie's imo. 3. A guy to give Ray Carter company but with better racing skills. 4. A dude whose attire is rat-like but whose skills are mediocre--don't worry, Frank Malcov will still be in last place :).

I followed Northway Games by playing the two Rebuild games during the time of Humble Indie Bundles on mobile. I realised the devs had moved on and made this for PC only after getting done with them. Instant buy.

I've never played a Life Sim before. It felt like Stardew Valley but at the end of each season, your character ... grows up and learns a little. You'll have tons of experiences with friends with whom you will all (hopefully) reach adulthood with. Add impending dangers and survival to that. You're not exactly relaxing at your cosy little farm here.

Story, artwork and soundtrack are all 10/10. Without giving anything away, it had an ... interesting ... mechanic for replayability.

In my main review of the base game, I advised against the DLCs due to the base game's and their high individual prices. I played a lot and I knew I would get bored soon. So I cautiously purchased just three factions based on Dawn of War: Dark Crusade. I managed to play them before winding up.

If you've tried the CA before in other games, you'd expect them to be hard to play but powerful if you execute your strategy well. This is captured well and you get that feeling. So if you like CA, considering all I said, go for it.

The faction play style and its features are unique once again and interesting. The storyline is nice because afterall, what's the 40K universe without Chaos? So if you like Chaos, considering all I said, go for it.

The game by itself is great even without the DLCs, with just the four factions. I clocked so much gameplay time that it reached my top 5 played games. Recommend only buying when it's on sale because even despite that, I find its price too steep.

I thought of getting a few of the DLC factions when I finished toying with each original factions. I chose them based on Dawn Of War's Dark Crusade: the Eldar, Tau and Chaos. While they were good, each DLC faction has its own steep cost. It would make sense if they were bundled together and totalling to less than the base game. I already got done with the game by then.

Steam Deck: Runs smoothly enough with the basic custom layout. May have to zoom in and out in some places since it's not optimised for small screens.

I did a second playthrough exactly ten years after the first time I played it. I had finished Borderlands 3 and I felt like revisiting this. Borderlands 2 is just way better in so many ways. Aged like fine wine. The only thing I missed was the few QOL changes Part 3 has. The plot, the characters and gameplay. Everything is just better.

I replayed on the harder difficulty and what a challenge it was! I then wanted to play a third time. Sad part was: you need a darn DLC just to lvl up further? (Unless they changed this, I played in late 2024.)

Runs better than 3 on the Deck because of its lower graphics. There's one issue I faced where the game doesn't remember your progress until you reach a checkpoint if you keep it on standby while the game is running. That was bearable.

Borderlands 3 has some QOL improvements, new mechanics, more content and a longer good storyline. Some places it does disappoint: the story progression at some points and certain few characters including the main antagonists felt poorly done. Borderlands 2 is still better, plot and gameplay-wise.

It runs decent on the Steam Deck. Not great. Good enough. Loading takes a lot of time. Look up on Reddit the custom graphic settings people used for this game to
get started.

I recommend it.

Like most others, getting this is just a small way we can support Tarn and Zach a little more. Probably the only thing I'll wait for to go out of sale and then buy at full price.
