I think the best way I can describe this game to you is to illustrate it into a story.

I had been trucking over the road, all over the lower 48 states in the U.S., for a few years. I took a pause to spend time with who would later become the love of my life, my wife, and my best friend. After a year or so I decided I wanted to get back to it, but I wanted her there with me to see it. One of the primary reasons I had burned out before was because instead of enjoying the scenery and mapping out the U.S. into mental regions, I was missing her, wishing she was there to see it with me.

So that's what happened.

Months and months go by. We're descending Cabbage Hill, down into Pendleton. I'm riding the transmission and the engine brake all the way down, fully loaded at a steady 25MPH. Hazard lights on, right lane only. Ahead we see a truck had run up to the top of a runaway ramp, a service vehicle assisting. To my left I see in my mirror a McDonalds daycab driver blazing past, blowing my doors off, honking at me with the air horn like I was the one in the way, like I was the dumb one. Nuts.

But then I suppose he finally saw the truck up on the runaway and decided maybe he should slow it down. His brake lights illuminated, intense, thick smoke coming from his axles from the brake slam, I noticed the trailer lurch forward almost like it was about to fly off of the fifth wheel. Once we made it safely down I parked the truck (a beautiful, shiny, faded-gold Kenworth T680 with a full sleeper) at a truck stop down in Pendleton to rest for the day. We spotted that same daycab driver parked on another side of the lot with smoke still coming off his brakes, filling the entire parking lot with that pungent odor of "oh jeez, I shouldn't have done that" smell.

We're off the road for now. We have a wonderful home together and things couldn't be better.

A few hours ago while I was playing this game, I was descending Cabbage yet again, my shifter stick down a solid 10+ gears from my overdrive, hauling roughly 150K pounds of raw, gross weight through those winding roads, remembering the story behind the name Cabbage (look it up). I was doing my best to safely get that oversize load down to the bottom without killing anybody. The song on my YouTube playlist "Jolene" by Zac Brown Band playing in my ears. I saw another truck on the other side in the oncoming lane, could have sworn it said "Swift" on the side, my eyes playing tricks on me.

I was completely absorbed. I don't have a VR headset, but in-game it was 3AM, not a soul in sight save for the few trucks out, myself included. The engine noise mixed with the music playing, it was like I was back out on the road again. It was jarring when I came back to planet Earth, remembering that I was actually at home, sitting in front of my desk, turning the steering wheel and my right hand resting on the stick (don't do that IRL, you can damage it). I was back out. It was an unforgettable experience, expecting to see idiots racing past like that McDonalds driver.
