The way of the samurai is found in death. Meditation on inevitable death should be performed daily. Every day when one´s body and mind are at peace, one should meditate upon being ripped apart by arrows, rifles, spears and swords, being carried away by surging waves, being thrown into the midst of a great fire, being struck by lightning, being shaken to death by a great earthquake, falling from thousand-foot cliffs, dying of disease or committing seppuku at the death of one´s master. And every day without fail he should consider himself as dead. This is the substance of the way of the samurai.

武士の道は死の中にある。避けられない死についての瞑想は毎日行うべきです。身も心も平穏な毎日、矢、小銃、槍、刀で引き裂かれたり、押し寄せる波に流されたり、大火の中に投げ出されたり、雷に打たれたり、大地震で揺さぶられて死んだり、千フィートの崖から落ちたり、病気で亡くなったり、主人の死に切腹したりして瞑想すべきです。そして、毎日、必ず自分は死んだとみなさなければならない。これが武士の道の本質です。

The Eye of the Universe, that is the player -you- go find yourself watching the eye which is you. You got 22 minutes to find the coordinates and get there. In this way, the game teaches you something about yourself in case you're open to it. I am still looking for a game that comes close to it. Outer Wilds is unique, intrinsically rewarding, deeply intuitive, and highly explosive.

It's truly 11/10.

If you come across this review without having consulted the web about the game's plot, count yourself lucky. Please stay in the unknown - rejoice in the Unknown! Keep that beginner's mind. Do yourself a favor and start the game like a blank slate. I did, and I am grateful.

Outer Wilds provides the perfect mix of existential dread, disorientation, realization. It prompts you to ask questions about life and death, about existence, about travel, about perception, quantum physics, warp holes, time, space, about God, about beginnings and endings.


A de-conditioning is going to take place in regards to on-screen worlds of exploration. Your attitude is gonna be altered to new heights of respect for game developers. There are no items to be found nor keys to unlock doors to the next level. Instead, you are asked to get information and find out about how certain things work in this solar system.

Having said that, it's important to note that you keep going and not get frustrated too easily because as much as the game has to offer... it also expects a lot from you as a player.

... Take breaks. PAUSE. Accept that you can't rush through this game. Lean back. Relax.
... Stop for a while. Have a hot chocolate.
... Go somewhere and get your brain oxygenized. Spend time with Mother 𝓝𝓪𝓽𝓾𝓻𝓮 ;)
... Then come back with a fresh mind and clear heart.
