PC gaming before the late 2010s = better graphics quality, higher resolutions, and higher frame rates compared to consoles were selling points
PC gaming today = old/outdated graphics sell best (Roblox/Battlebit, Valheim, indies), 1080p and 1440p are the desired resolutions (1/4 and less than 1/2 console resolution), 1080p is two decades old, asking for more than 60 FPS is shunned

Unreal Engine 1-2.5 = showcased most or all of the latest and greatest DX8.x and DX9.x features at launch
Source engine = showcased all of the latest DX9 features at launch
Crysis = released the same year as DX10 and had every DX10 feature
Metro 2033 and Aliens vs Predator = released the same year as DX11 and had nearly every DX11 feature
Ashes of the Singularity = showcased every DX12 feature as of 2016
DX12 Ultimate = released in 2018, we're now in 2024 and no game has more than 2 features - most only have 0 or 1
UE5 Nanite = 2014 era tech (a lot of it is 2010 era) yet no one else comes close to it

Fun fact: PC gamers went from considering Unreal Tournament 2003 unacceptable for having too little content (52 maps, 8 game modes, 14 UNIQUE weapons, endless moddability, dedicated server application and SDK included with the game) to being perfectly fine with unmoddable games limited to rent-a-server programs, 8-12 tiny maps or 1 big one, 1-4 unoriginal game modes, only generic guns with mostly the same functionality and poor balance, hundreds of dollars worth of DLC/MTX.
