When I first started playing the Arkham games, I was told Origins was the black sheep of the group and that it might be best to avoid it. I thought Arkham Asylum was mediocre and that Arkham City was spectacular, so when I heard that Arkham Origins was more like the latter, I gave it a shot.

It could have been better than Arkham City, the base game had that much potential. The new powerups are very fun to use. Fighting the seven assassins required unique methods for each. Roger Craig Smtih does a better Batman than Kevin Conroy in my opinion, as he projects more vocal variety and talks to Barbara Gordon differently than a person he is interrogating.

At the same time, the game needed more polish and was clearly rushed to make the 2013 holiday season, which is not surprising since the game takes place during the night of Santa's expedition. There were two or three times where I fell through the floor and Batman registered that he fell into the sea. The challenge ladder requires you to do them in order, which makes the predator ladder nearly impossible to complete on a single playthrough. There are also missable achievements, which are pretty infuriating if you miss them.

I never got to try the multiplayer; ther servers are dead. If you liked Arkham City and are willing to trade overall presentation quality for more, new content, then I highly recommend this game.

Oh, and in the training arena, you can play as SLADE WILSON.

Trial and error gameplay; seeing your head fly off when you die; falling through platforms that were once solid in a previous life; the game telling you Gordon has no more grenades when he has one in his hand; AI blocking doors, getting stuck behind walls, and missing targets to hit you when you are on their side; scripted scenes that occour when you are out of range to see them; a confusing final boss that will make you question if you are actually damaging him; repetitive enemies; lackluster music; malicious ladder physics; questionable physics in general; topped with a minimalstic and anticlimatic credits seqence; these are the reasons why I call "Half-Life" "Half-Finished".

The survivalist vibe is implemented well, but if you want that, I would reccommend just about any other action game ever, including Half-Life 2.

People that say it is impossible to be original nowadays should look at Portal 2. It has the best writing in any video game I have played, but it feels like an attempt to cover up shallow puzzle solving and the fact that the game is only around eight hours long. I suggest getting it, but be careful.
