Did you feel fallout 4 "parenting in the apocalypse" was lackluster?
This game knocks it out the park. The story is one of brutal survival, people just trying to live a life, no-one seems to be having a good time. And it's compelling as heck, so well written, side characters are great, the world is well developed, and it doesn't rely on the soulslike "oooh read all the flavourtext" you got a world and story in front of you, flavourtext and side characters enhance it greatly, but you will understand what is going on with what the story presents you.

Mechanically.... hollowknight-hotlinemiami-motorcross. Well, motorcross first, hot damn they have found a way to make backtracking in a metroidvania satisfying, the bike is so fun to control, it can just be fun to drive around, so much so that while there is fast travel, I barely used it.
And then you get the late game movement tool and damn, it's even better!

The hotline miami comes from the one shot lethality of combat, bigger fights can often be a bit of a puzzle of kill order + skill, bosses are a whole different can of worms, all of them different, mechanically interesting, and horrific. Then, everything is dead, and you're left with the killer soundtracks mournful tone and it's just emphasises the brutality.

If i was going to complain.... some of the mechanics im not sure if they're fiddly or if it's just me with a KB/M
I swear I should get more of the parries, sometimes the timing seems generous, sometimes I miss entirely.
While juggling corpses for combos is fun, it also really can be annoying when you hit an errant corse or weapon instead of your target. Riding on ropes on thet one level can be hard to master. The one hit and your dead can make some bosses a bit annoying, because you have to redo the whole thing there's no insensitive or saving health in earlier sections you can do to help you in later stages. That may just be me coming of AC6, none of the bosses ultimatley took that long to complete, but with AC doing better in early stages meant more wiggle in later.

TL:DR It's a really, really good game, I hope it blows up like Hollow Knight or Hotline Miami. Major props to the devs.
