This game plays the way you remember Ninja Gaiden played, which is to say, even better than the original. Completely inspired, full of life and character, passion for level design, a love of gaming and wonderful storytelling. The messenger is a solid entry into the 2D scroller genre that I will definitely remember.

The original Ninja gaiden is hard, no qualms about it. This takes several notes, both the good and the bad, including that enemy regeneration seemingly right in on platforming sweet spots. This game really has perfected the concept of a spiritual reboot.

The level design and game mechanics progression is executed flawlessly. It’s challenging, make no mistake about that, but the angle of increase is very gradual that it doesn’t feel unnecessarily difficult. The game tests you, your patience and your rage, but it stays fun and competitive.

The story is very engaging and the writing is insanely good. I wish the lore of the world was a little more fleshed out. Some of the bigger endgame moments introduce a lot of new concepts that feel a little bookended. Anyone who has had a love for classic gaming will really enjoy exploring the dialogue and probably will be as forgiving as I was.

The amount of love poured into this game is palpable. I paid full price for this game, and I don’t regret it one bit.
