Contrast is a strange beast. It's a platform-based puzzle game set in a surrealist, steampunk, early 20th century paris-like city. The player controls Dawn, the imaginary friend of the main character Didi, who has the titular power of being able to switch back and forth from the physical world to the shadow world. The player uses this ability to solve the many puzzles that are conviently wrapped around the story line. I don't want to delve too deep into the lore of this story, since most of its value comes from its twists (which is bad enough that I'm addressing), but it is something to witness. I wish that the game explored certain aspects that I felt needed developing, and the ending was a bit lackluster.

I have two main quips about this game. The first is its glitches. Sometimes when doing certain puzzles in the shadow world, the game will inexplicably pop you back into the physical world. Puzzles like these just require trial and error, but in a game where the main goal is to challenge the player's smarts and not their patience, it has no place. The second quip I have is the length of the game. It only took me three and a half hours to finish this game, and I usually consider myself as someone who plays through games very slowly. Since I actually got this game as a gift from a very generous friend (thanks BOT Mathew :3), I'm not that mad about it. However, if you plan on buying this game, ONLY GET IT ON SALE. It is definetely not worth a full $15. Other than that, I love this game. The controls are great, the visuals are engaging, and the collectibles give an excuse to marvel at such a beautifull world.

TL; DR: A very pretty game with an interesting story and even more interesting puzzles, yet can get a little buggy at times and is too much for its price considering its length. A must get game while its on sale. Can be considered one of those "art" games.

Pros:
- Beautiful art schema is simplistic in its design yet the colors pop out at you
- Soundtrack is a mix between ambiance and smooth electronic that'll lull you into a relaxed state
- Controls are tight and responsive and make platforming a breeze
- Lack of story allows more focus to be put on puzzles
- Don't let the game fool you; these levels offer mind-bending challenges
- Multiplayer works well and adds social depth to the overall experience
- Runs well even on lower end machines

Cons:
-Game is desgined around multiplayer. If you don't have internet or a friend that could help, you could be stuck on a single puzzle for hours that would otherwise take 10 minutes
-There are no checkpoints anywhere throughout the levels. If the game crashes, you'll have to start at the beginning of the level all over again.
-Sometimes hard to connect to someone online for multiplayer
-Doesn't have much replayability value

Overall Score: 7.5/10
