A good game but nowhere near as scary as everyone makes it seem
Honestly I seem to be in the minority on this but the sound design in this game was part of the problem, at no point the first 85% of the game did I feel unsafe wandering about the house, but by god was there a random creak or groan every 5 seconds, like to the point of being genuinely ridiculous (and once you notice it you cant stop noticing it)

Also the game relied HEAVILY on jump-scares, with good tension building sections sprinkled in between, but every time there was a jump-scare the music would get real heavy and weird and crescendo for like 15 straight seconds which... was unnecessary and another example of the weird sound decisions

It's linearity was nice and I'm sure people who hated the obscurity of a game like Visage will enjoy this more. The puzzles were more creative and challenging then I was expecting, but nothing insanely hard to figure out with enough time.

The final boss itself was... weird. Like playing a weird song (gave Tiny Tim vibes) 15 times got a bit old, especially with an enemy that could insta-kill you while youre interacting with quest objects.

Overall good game, with nice voice acting and a plot that mostly makes sense (still not sure where the nazicomes into playi) but not at all scary like I hoped it would be

(Personally I found Visage far scarier)

I actually dont recommend you play this until AFTER In "Stars and Time"


However the price point is really bad (half the price of the base game for half an hour of content??), but is a good little bonus for those who loved ISAT, and very sad for those who know what really happens after "Start Again" ends.

Goes on sale for $5 which is more reasonable. Though $10 is wonderful for supporting the creator regardless

Mixed feelings although I did actually (surprisingly) love this game, but at its heart it's absolutely STILL a fishing game about... yknow... fishing. The game throws in some rag-tag eldritch bits every once in a while, and yeah, playing at night was scary for the first week, but I thought there would be more yknow?

According to other reviewers I was expecting this game to be a slow burn plot that would softly lead to both eldritch horror AND also information about the backstory's of a lot of the game's residents. But instead it was slow burn to.. nothing really. You didn't really get extra information about the town's residents when playing, you didn't learn more about everyone's lives and you definitely learn the bare minimum about the creepy things happening in relation to the character you play.

I liked that the game had plot twists I didn't completely foresee, and that exploration was so heavily encouraged, but beyond this what was the point? Yeah I collected one of every fish, but that doesnt explain why the dockworker became despondent and stared out into the ocean every night. Yeah I realize the ways our character is caught up in the strange comings and goings of Marrow and its greater area, but that doesnt mean it gave enough background info for the minor characters beyond "they exist, theyre creeped out by the vibe of this place, and they will buy fish from you". Nothing happened with the fish guy after he got sick from eating a bunch of abberant fish? The lady I take out to live on an island by herself just, meagerly exists and never quite explains why she wanted to be by herself in the first place? I deliver a living package for some random fisherman and never see him again or know what the package was?

And okay yeah I'm not stupid, I do know the reasons for the things I listed above. It's just that every reveal was disappointing and had no impact on the game really. And from other people's reviews it just seemed that there would be more plot and characterization, and the reality is that there was very little of either of those things. Just good ole fishing instead.

Like I had fun and I enjoyed the game waaaay more than I thought I would (I literally dont give a ♥♥♥♥ about fishing), but why wasnt there more? Why does every review claim there's "more" to this game when it really didn't feel like there was???

If you love fishing this game is ABSOLUTELY for you, if you're meh about fishing then maybe consider I still enjoyed this game, but didn't really find the plot rewarding enough. The game dangles a bunch of interesting plot threads in front of you and then fails to deliver on every single one. They just kinda left everything hanging.

On sale the game is probably worthwhile even if not into this stuff, but full price no thank you

Very mixed feelings about this game. I really enjoyed the concept and the execution of the game, especially considering I at first glance thought this was a kitschy, cheaply made little horror game made for streamers to scream at (you know the type), but was pleasantly surprised at the thought and effort put into this.

However, I feel like it didn't live up to its potential.

First of all, the game is super short, even if you play it multiple times to reach all the different endings it still doesn't take that long and the $25 asking price feels a bit insane to me. I got it on sale for $15 and that felt more fair.

However I presume there will be more content added eventually since there achievements in the game you can't actually unlock yet. So that is nice. The game is made by a single dev afaik and so I'm sure it might take a while but I'm down to reassess the game when that happens.

My biggest issue is the lack of content and the scariness factor. The game does absolutely have its horrifiyng moments, and some of the scares are pretty unique and well thought out, but it took only 2 or so games to start getting repetitive scares, and there also were just not enough scares in the game in general. Atmosphere is top notch at first, but it really starts to wane when you realize after a two playthroughs (which a single play-through you can finish in like 30 minutes, though my first took probably took an hour and a half) that there are very few time when something will actually happen.
There were an infinite amount of times during my first games where I got in my head about the atmosphere and thought something scary could happen at any time or around any corner, but the scares quickly became easy to predict, and I feel there were SO MANY MISSED OPPORTUNITIES FOR TERRIFYING MOMENTS THAT JUST WERE NOT UTILIZED THE WAY THEY COULDVE BEEN. Makes me want to make a horror game (somehow lol) to implement the vision.

Idk, the game was good there just isnt enough of it to make it worth the price. Brilliant concept though, and fun enough if you get it on sale. Top notch atmosphere and the gameplay revolving around having to slowly and patiently embalm bodies (among other things I wont spoil) while hoping nothing will get you as you meticulously go about your business was great.

there just needs to be a little more.
