Took me about two hours to 100% the game, so I would definitely say that while this game isn't quite worth $15 in my opinion, it is still worth playing. Really reminds me a lot of Tacoma: focusing on learning about the characters and their interpersonal relationships as they lived and worked, while simultaneously solving the mystery of their disappearance and the subsequent, slow destruction of the station they living on

Also the plot twist was GOOD

I'm a bee. Yeah, I'm mean. I'm an intellectual.
I'm Russian you see, I'm no homosexual.
Goodnight comrade, your drink's been laced.
I'm gonna tie you up, pollinate your face.
I want to torture you, make you scream.
After all, I'm Boris the KGBee

You better beehave brother or I'll break your knees
I'm a mad mother buzzer, I'm KGBee
You want to buzz with me?
You can't buzz with me!
To the K to the G to the mother buzzing Bee.
You say you want to live, but you're gonna die.
You better say goodbye, here comes some cyanide.

Boris, please, you don't have to do this,
It was just business,
Was all about the honey.
I'm not a traitor, I love this country.
You've got to release me you have to see.
I’m country first I'm still KGBee.

You are no longer KGBee,
You are just a simple worker bee,
Prisoner number 33.
Have another broken knee.
Would you like a cup of tea?
That was just a joke you see.
You’ll never see a cup of tea
As long as you’re alive to bleed.
But coffee is available,
If you’d like a cup or two.
Would you like a sugar cube,
When I finish beating you?

You better beehave brother,
‘Cause i aim to please.
I’ve got a knife and a hammer and some anti-freeze
Is it hard to speak,
Through your missing teeth?
Will you try to fly,
Once I take your eye?
If you want to leave, then take my key.
But I’ll break your knees, I’m Boris the KGBee.

Oh, beehave brother...

It’s not bad but it’s also not great.

I think Lethe was trying to implement a lot of aspects from more popular horror games like Amnesia and Outlast mainly, but ultimately the game fell short in many many ways.

Environment

To be honest I didn’t find any of the levels of Lethe to be particularly interesting or memorable. They all blended together because they all kind of looked the same. Boxes and barrels, some human skeletons on the floor, probably some sewage somewhere. After each chapter looking almost the same, they began to feel a little flat and it definitely took some excitement out of the game.
The environment also doesn’t really allow for much freedom for movement or exploration. Every level is pretty small and straightforward. I rarely ever had to backtrack to solve a puzzle or find an item, AND all the corridors in just about the entire game are so small. Maybe the game creators were going for a “claustrophobic” feel? I’m not sure. If they were trying to make the player feel claustrophobic than they did succeed, but I think it did the game more harm than good. Again, narrow and small levels that don’t encourage exploration become very boring very quickly. Having wider levels with more space and then the occasional narrow passageways and tunnel systems I feel would have been a little more successful in building up the atmosphere and tension.

Monsters

The game does have its terrifying moments. The enemies move randomly and teleport all over the small areas you’re exploring. So you may think the doctor is behind you (because you saw him behind you 2 minutes ago) and then you turn the corner and suddenly the doctor is in front of you and suddenly you’re dead. Ouch. However, the monsters are very easy to outrun. Like stupidly easy. If you turn away from them and sprint for 5 or more seconds somehow they lose you. Which is strange considering how narrow and simple the map designs are. I can’t get lost so how do the monsters always manage to lose me? I also found that monster encounters were rare. I hardly ever even encountered the creatures (and I wasn’t trying to be all that sneaky either) until the later levels where the creature is lured by noise.
I do think the monster designs overall were nice, but the first two creatures did blend together a bit. All Lethe monsters are humanoid, but I didn’t realise that the monster chasing me in the Laboratory wasn’t the same monster that was chasing me in first levels until I replayed the game for the achievements. I think the last monster was quite terrifying and that they did a brilliant job making her scary.
I guess a concern I have with the monsters though is that, admittedly, I don’t always read the notes in games like these. Most horror games do give the players notes to read for extra backgrounds and story I suppose, but they also tend to explain their villains and story through playing the game as well. Lethe doesn’t do that. With Amnesia, the monsters you encounter don’t need a background because theyre not the real villain, they’re kind of just basic mobs. With Outlast, each level’s villain interacts with you in some way so you end up knowing the character you’re against. In Lethe, I know there was a diver, a doctor, and the mother but I don’t know why because in a high-risk horror game like this one I don’t like to take the time to read the 15 notes I find (or might not find) in each level.

Puzzles

This game had a lot of potential when it came to puzzles. Instead it chose more of an Outlast approach with minimal environment interaction. The whole game is more of a “pull the switch/press the button and find the door it opened” kind of game. Which is sad because in the beginning of chapter 4 you wake up with telekinetic powers (for some reason) and can now move barrels and boxes that block very obvious doorways and air vents (no challenge there), stack things on top of each other to reach an item (this happened like twice the entire game and the platforming controls felt wonky in both) and pull switches from beyond iron cage bars (this made up most of the puzzles). The potential this power had was lost in Lethe. I mean physics based puzzles using telekinetic powers sounds awesome! But no it never happened. The most we got was using our telekinetic powers to pick up yellow barrels to open doors and to use switches to open doors and honestly there was just a lot of opening doors.

----------------------

TL;DR
Nice scary atmosphere but weak and repetitive level design, genuinely terrifying monsters that are easy to avoid and escape from, a plot I never understood (or really ever learned), and straightforward puzzles with an overall lack of challenge.

If a second episode is ever made, then this studio has a lot of potential to make it really really great. Lethe: Episode 1 was a fun game, and I am glad I took the time to play it, but there was also a lot that could have been better. 6.5/10

I am a HUGE fan of RPG Maker puzzle and horror games. "Ib" and "The Witch's House" have been two of my favourite games since they were released online years ago, and honestly I think this game tops them.

The length of Fausts Alptraum already makes the game worth the price. It took me about 12 hours to play through without any guides or hints, and it was wonderful all the way. The atmosphere is somber and horrid, the puzzles are really well thought out and fun/challenging to solve, and the characters and story are very interesting as well. All in all it's a 10/10 from me.

If you enjoy RPG maker games like me (or even if you don't) for the cheap cheap price of FREE this game is absolutely worth the play no matter what

Spyro the Dragon is the first game I ever played back when I was pretty much a baby.
I still own my original disks on my PS1 to this day, and when the audio started to go out on one of them I bought them all through the Playstation store on my PS3.
When Reignited was first released I bought it on my PS4, and when my PS4 was stolen (sadly with the Reignited trilogy that I had PRE-ORDERED still inside), Reignited was the first game I bought when I got a new one.
And finally, now that it's on Steam and on sale, I've bought it here.

Needless to say, this game series has a big ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ place in my heart, and the Reignited trilogy is everything the originals were and more.

They may be kid games but no one can stop me from playing them 10000 more times
I refuse to get tired of them 100000/10

----------

For those that AREN'T kids and/or weren't raised on Spyro you may be far less interested. In all honesty you're pretty likely to get bored playing these. None of the games (or worlds within the games) present much of a challenge whatsoever.
And this game does have very repetitive game-play mechanics that exist throughout all three. There are occasional powerups, and sometimes (in the third game) you can play as a different character. But other than that it's literally all head-butting and flame breath.
There are lots of nooks and crannies in each world where they hide gems and whatnot if you're playing with the interest of collecting everything, so figuring out how to find everything makes it more fun. And there are a bunch of different challenges in each world/portal that bring a lot of diversity to gameplay. But they're all short lived and soon enough you're back to just your normal head-butt/firebreath duo.
Personally, none of these challenges ever posed much of a problem to me, but maybe that's just because I've played these games more times than should be legally allowed. If you've never played this series before they may be more difficult but I don't think they'd be crazy hard for any adult out there who has played even a single video game before.

----------

Spyro the Dragon - Shortest with the weakest level design. I think in some ways it's the hardest game since some enemies feel a little ganky in certain worlds (Misty Bog), and it has hidden gems that are genuinely difficult to find. Spyro is a little snobbish in this one, and it doesn't have many enjoyable NPCs. It has a really weird mix of VERY bright and VERY dull worlds. My least favourite (and if you're not sure you'll ever have time to play all three games, then I don't recommend you start with this one) but still classic and 100% worth a play.

Spyro: Ripto's Rage/Gateway to Glimmer - Most people's favourite. This game introduced major players like Elora, Hunter, and the infamous Moneybags. Spyro's less of a jerk. In the first and third games there are certain levels I don't really enjoy, but in this game I can't think of a single one I didn't like. It's got biggest worlds in any of the games, and introduces game-play challenges. You also got a new ability each world which was cool. Also the final boss was actually pretty hard.

Spyro: Year of the Dragon - My personal favourite. It's the longest game and I think it's the easiest (maybe?). This game introduced playing as other characters. Which was good and bad I guess. The diversity was nice but playing as some of those characters was tedious af. They feel a little stagnated and slow when it comes to hitting enemies (which is so different from Spyro himself since you spend all your time with him quickly running and punching people in the gut with your head so...). But the worlds were very diverse, lots of different characters to meet and challenges to play. It's not crazy different from Ripto's Rage though the final boss was way easier. Also it introduced skateboarding and I spent an embarrassingly large amount of hours learning tricks and beating records when I was a kid

----------

I love these games but I do understand they're not for everyone. In fact I'm sure they're probably not for most.
I think many people would enjoy playing through one of the Spyro games but because of the repetition I'm sure most people would never finish the others (I suggest starting with the 2nd game first). BUT they're still really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ wonderful and Reignited just made them so much better.

Also Moneybags is still an ass

It's been three years and I still think about this game, though I wish I could give it a neutral review (however it being 3 years maybe there's been some major updates in the meanwhile? Idk)

This was an amazing non-sequel sequel to the first couple Penumbra games. If you loved the OG Penumbra series (excluding, or even including Overture lol) than you'll absolutely love this game. It follows the original formula to an amazing degree, follows a similar vein in the way puzzles are solved and exploration is uncovered.
Even the plot just makes amazing sense and fits in with the lore of the first two games.

HOWEVER there are some bugs that ruined this experience.
(It may be fixed by now but,)
There is a section where you have to use valves to open a certain area, and if you take too long after using a valve to open a door that door will automatically close and you won't be able to continue. I remember this being a major problem with other players though thankfully this didn't affect me as I was able to solve it quickly enough.

BUT THE BIGGEST ISSUE was the bug that broke my game and absolutely did affect me.
Literally 10 minutes from the end of the game I encountered a bug that made it so my character was stuck on the edge of the map??? No matter what I did the gravity or whatnot pulled me to the edge of the area the final zone takes place in and it was literally impossible for me to proceed. Really sucked because I was at the FINAL AREA and couldn't complete the game...
I didn't see too many people have this issue so I can't say I'd recommend against the game solely because of these definitely game-breaking issues, but I do caution new users to save a lot and maybe make backups save scumming is legal dammit of their saves if it means a lot to them to finish the game.

Overall, for a free game made in the same spirit as the OG Penumbra trilogy this is an amazing non-sequel that in my heart is the only true sequel (let's be real, Frictional games is never going to continue this series they need to stop making Amnesia games pls lmao, and I don't think I'd trust anyone but these guys to make a sequel about the character Red).

Amazing work of love for a series way past its prime with a fanbase that's likely way past their prime as well.
