Like zombies? Like building things? You'll probably like this. I enjoy games where I can combine base building with tower defense elements, and that's literally the selling point of this one. Feels nice. Just wish there were more gameplay variety long term. I love seeing the structures and dungeons the developers have added and exploring the creativity inherent in them, but it does eventually turn into a bit of a slog if you have the attention span of a chipmunk like I do.

I've played this game for years and years, and now that we've finally got it released on Steam, I can give the devs the money they deserve. Thanks, Toady! Thanks, Kitfox!

The game is wonderfully made, but whatever you do, be sure to pay heed to the warnings it gives. They are not just the game trying to be edgy, they're legitimately something to be aware of. I want to recommend it as a beautiful work of art, but at the same time... I can't in good conscience recommend it to anyone with past experiences with emotionally abusive relationships. If you go into it, go into it with the knowledge that it will probably bring up some really, really bad memories.

It has its bugs and quirks here and there, and the damascus forging minigame is sorely lacking in realism, but the game is charming and pleasant. I'm comfortably able to play this for a very long time. The thing it does best is nail the feeling of leisurely focus of watching the heat of your metal.

got game, chose wanderer start because "hey default lol sounds good"

ran around like a headless chicken learning controls from the tutorial, tried to find copper to mine, and promptly got beaten into a coma by other poor people and starved to death

10/10 would die again

I'm a long-time Planetside player, going back to PS1, and while this isn't like the past games in the series, it does have similar gunplay to Planetside 2 (albeit "more accurate" and more "player friendly", and less "heavy feeling" if that makes sense). Times to kill are fairly low compared to most other BR titles out there like PUBG and such, and players who avoid eachother and try to hide and camp really deserve to have as little fun as possible with this one.

PS:A is, as things stand, supposed to be a very fast paced BR. Vehicles calling attention to your location, and all players equipped with on-demand vehicles, distances between locations being far enough that those vehicles are almost mandatory to use, and so on and so forth ensure that if an enemy is nearby, there's a good chance they're going to group up and start shooting sooner rather than later. Everyone has their full kit right off the bat and random drops only improve that kit, save for power weapons like anti-vehicle launchers or sniper rifles, so there's less running about in a panic hoping to find something nice and a whole lot more just plain old shooting people like a civilized person.

Unfortunately, the game right now suffers from a low population due to having blown its initial advertisement on a canceled release earlier in the year, delayed its releases further, and finally released it on the morning of a school and work day right in the same time frame as another major Battle Royale. And punishing it further is that many jaded Planetside 2 fans see Planetside: Arena's departure from the typical open-world persistent conflict style of gameplay as a betrayal, and have either decided to never play the game, or are actively trying to drive away potential players.

I hope PS:A can recover, because its gameplay has some merit, though it isn't without its problems and I am not as fond of Battle Royales as some.

Despite what the advertisements may say, this series is *not* survival horror. This is action horror. Or, more specifically, a "shoot zombies until you get tired of the genre" game.

It's a damn fun one, at that. Play it if you like blowing zombies away. Don't play it if you're looking for a scary experience.

This doesn't even deserve the title "FEAR".

It's a series of shooting galleries loosely themed to the game. You enter an area, kill a few dozen enemies, then they unlock the door to the next area. This pattern repeats to the end of the game. There are no interesting places, no interesting gameplay - its literally just one big shooting gallery with COD-esque gameplay and a points and ranking system. The plot can basically be summed up as "Fettel is resurrected and competes with Point Man for Alma's attention", which in my personal opinion completely ruins both characters. Even Beckett, from the god-awful FEAR 2, was ruined by framing him as some sort of weakling who'd be an alcoholic if he weren't in such dire circumstances.

Every single positive point to the series was removed in favor of this ridiculous shooting gallery gameplay. At least the AI is able to do something other than stand out in the open - sometimes.

While the game has some good gunplay at times early on, it becomes a drag later on when enemies become bullet sponges, rather than actually getting more difficult. The horror aspects are lacking. You will find that, even with headphones on, the volume up, and the lights out at Stupid O'Clock in the morning, the "scares" won't be able to even make you flinch. It's more like "Oh, hey Alma." and "Please stop screwing with my camera." type annoyances than anything.

Save yourself the time and only get FEAR 1, Extraction Point, and Perseus Mandate. Unless you find the entire bundle on sale for cheap. You want the first game and its expansions, not FEAR 2 and FEAR 3. If you're okay with only playing for the story, go for it - that's really the only redeeming feature here.

Oh, also, the graphics are pretty good for the time, so I guess that's a plus too...?
