I've played this game since alpha and I've been wanting to shove money in everyone's face for a while but now i can finally do that YAAAAAAY

The game's pretty damn good, I think, even if it's basically another LEGO-inspired game, it has a lot more emergent building mechanics than just placing bricks on a grid. It may be a game you pay for, but that also means you directly contribute to the developers to ensure this game doesn't turn into gamble addiction slop, which I am VERY in favor of.

Like everyone else is saying. This is literally download fps.

Idk what the ♥♥♥♥ these bros are cooking but they have made some gourmet black magic ♥♥♥♥. It's the first i've seen triple real-time frame gen in a program. Not only that, but the scaling alg for LS is legitimately better than the market standard. These guys are cracked and for 7 bucks there's no point in not buying it.

I will warn, not EVERY game is compatible with this, sometimes you'll encounter added latency, but if you find a game this works on, it's a steal. Sometimes the native experience is plenty sufficient, especially if the game is 1) already optimized, and 2) has natively implemented FPS boosts. Everything else works pretty damn good for it tho.

Instant classic, gotta love the FEAR inspo. I was mistaken assuming there was gonna be a bullet time thing like FEAR and TREPANG2, but I think I'm pretty glad it isn't, since the enemies all only fire projectiles at you. This game's got so many little bits of detail that add so much to the worldbuilding, and while I have some very specific contentions with some of the combat options, this game's pretty much solid. Easily the best GZDoom project out there, and it blows so many games currently within the year out of the water right now. Basically a 10/10 game, and very much worth the wait.

...Well... At the time of rewriting this review, we went from 177 countries blocked to just 7. I think it's time for a proper review now.

This game has had a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ TUMULTUOUS year but somehow refused to die at pretty much any step of the way. From the initial launch, to the meta-killing whack-a-mole, to SONY being a bunch of idiots. This game managed to regain the glory it once had on launch, and perhaps even better than before. I hugely recommend this game, I wouldn't have put so many hours into this had it not been fun and engaging even in its worst moments.

Look, the game plays mostly how it looks like in videos; it's dramatic and film-like, with all sorts of shenanigans being possible through emergent gameplay alone. The guns feel good, movement feels good, even the stratagems only have "okay" options as opposed to true throw picks (bar maybe, a couple). You'll likely have ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ moments, or you'll steamroll bugs, bots, and squids alike. Most of the time, there's a pretty good deal of counterplay, and that's why I still play it.

i'm one of those few people that honestly found this app an already mediocre and underwhelming experience aside from the one or two niche cases this actually is enjoyable (Shoutouts to VibeTribe). It's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ chatroom for VR (and non-vr) players. Okay, sure, there's pvp and competitive modes and all that BS that the community made, but that's being built off the core of the app.

THEN I learned about the problem users in the community. There's... a LOT of bad actors in this app. this excludes the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ crashers and mod client trolls because EAC won't even fix that ♥♥♥♥ fully anyway. I'm talking about how raw people get when they can hide behind the same 12 anime girl avatars, makes for a very unsafe environment for more people than they realize.

I also will say that this app runs like trash. To pull the community out of helping your app run well and say "we'll do it ourselves" is the same ♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game companies do and I'm sick of it. This was the last app I expected to pull such a godawful move.

SO, onto the elephant in the room. Easy AntiCheat is hot steaming garbage for a app like this. Maybe fix your avatar system instead before assuming mod clients are the ones that break your app? You could've handled this more delicately, but you actively, consciously chose the nuclear option first because you're looking a one-size-fits-all solution that doesn't help ANYONE.

I don't expect anything to come out of this. Not surprised to see how much this thing got review bombed.

Unlike my friend Spectre, I joined in long after launch. I heard the horror stories about how completely garbage this game was upon launch and stayed clear of it, but since my first experience within the game is much better than the first impressions they got, I view this game a little more differently.

I like it, but I also agree with Spec. It's fun with friends but ultimately endgame is just all about grinding out more endgame things. I mean, once you've hit level 300, you've won the game. The ONLY thing you could really look forward to is getting more rare items or souping up your gear, blah blah. I can assure you. Endgame is a SLOG if you really want something. It's gotten a little better with increasing daily caps and all but it's just not quite what I want it to be. It doesn't exactly help that, for whatever reason, this game runs pretty horribly except for whenever you're indoors. I don't know why, and we've both tried to fix it, but it just doesn't run nicely. I just don't exactly see "playable" as optimized. At least everything else is nice, as small as the map feels after seeing all the key locations dozens of times each session.

I don't recommend it as much as I don't actively want to play it. It's a good time killer, and i'm not a "but muh longevity" mindset guy myself, but I dunno. If I could be of a "neutral" recommendation stance I'd have it here, but alas I'll choose "No" to reflect the loosest possible thoughts of mine lmao.

Okay, I'm rewriting this review because I'm starting to realize this game is... actually ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ lmao.

I'm not sugar coating here, I've been playing for maybe about a year or so, moreso in the last six months? The game sunk like a rock in terms of quality. I started in VR cuz I liked the idea of being able to PvP for free in a VR game, it was basically the only one I'd be able to enjoy it with. Decent people, mostly good sports, the occasional squeaker got in the way and it was kinda sad but also kinda funny to show them that diving head first into PvP without being mentally prepared to sometimes get merked, but overall, it was neat. VR players all had varying skill. Teleport players kinda sucked to fight against cuz they basically had an instant dodge button, but once I was shown the basics of TP player countering, I was set.

...Then came discovering Screen mode. To preface; it felt like I was in TF2 for the first time again.

Screen mode was the other half of RR that i was not expecting. COD/TF2 lobby city. If you remember the initial review I posted, well, there you go. Pub stomping in Screen lobbies netted me all kinds of bratty snot-nosed kids calling me every ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ insult and slur in the book. Some made me laugh because they were so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ridiculous, but most were just sad. I have ten years of arena shooter experience (TF2, DOOM (new and classic), Quake, DUSK, ULTRAKILL, etc. etc.), so obviously I just used that to my advantage because it was literally nothing new to me.

My word of advice? Don't do that.

Why? Simple, as time moved on I got bored of Paintball, where I started, because being able to top score constantly by just alternating pistols and netting 30+ kills average just wasn't fun. Players admittedly are usually kinda bad, but I made friends with some actual good players that challenged me (X members, you guys are chill). So with that in mind, I move to Laser Tag. I initially stayed away because I wasn't sure what the hell I was doing at first, but it was clear that there was something to do here, and I started learning fast. Some players destroyed me, so I brushed up on the game nuances, and suddenly I knew exactly what I was doing.

Over time I encountered some especially difficult players. More VR ones, sure, but also difficult Screen players, and they were AGGRESSIVE in terms of play style. First time I got utterly ruined was when someone pulled out a shotgun, meatshot me, then immediately meatshot me again. Only then I figured out what that was; Switch-Spamming. I found apparently DOOM Eternal logic could be applied to a baby game and I basically became a demon in Screen lobbies, and a wake-up call in VR ones.

The community did NOT like that.

So apparently a bunch of 9-14 year old kids got so pissed off at me to start abusing the report system, and it got worse over time. I get booted off one game via votekick, which, fine, sure, 10 minute timeout is fair. I'll make a snack and come back. Next lobby? False votekick #2 and then I'm out for a whole ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ HOUR. So then I wait a few days and come back, enjoy myself for a while, and then suddenly, about last week, I get false votekick #3, and it was anohter one-hour ban. So I go to bed for the night for work, come back a couple days later and see I'm banned for a WHOLE WEEK.

THAT is the community you're dealing with, and subsequently the moderation team (which is laughable at best, and a horrible display of a lack of agency at worst), because I decided to, instead of playing for an hour before I sleep like I do, I write an appeal to the ban. I didn't care about who in either Seattle or Australia had to see it, but I wanted them to know, WITH EVIDENCE, that I played legit, and other players use game engine quirks just like others, AND to send a message that they're dead wrong for banning me because I'm experienced.

Context: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RGK00oK1a5s --- I fight a pistol spammer and then double meatshot someone after predicting their (kinda obvious) movement.

Wanna know their response? I quote, from the e-mail, "Please take some time to read and review the Code of Conduct prior to returning to Rec Room. You can find the time remaining on your ban in the watch menu in game." Okay, fine. I read it. You know what I say about it? I'm still innocent. I don't go out of my way to harass, insult, discriminate, or offend others in this game. If they give me a reason to respond, then sure, I won't back down from talking back, but most of the time i'm focused on gameplay.

But the ban doesn't matter anyway. I was going on my account via RecNet because I wanted to update my profile since I couldn't do it in game, and discovered I could log myself out of all devices, so I said why not, since I won't be playing for a few days, it's not needed. Bad move. Apparently either changing your password or signing out remotely COMPLETELY bricks the game. You WILL be stuck in an infinite startup loop.

Context: https://www.reddit.com/r/RecRoom/comments/t4su74/rec_room_on_ps4_stuck_in_login_loop/

I already submitted a ticket but I can say for certain I have zero confidence in Against Gravity's ability to even see what I put down, because they sure as Hell didn't take the two seconds it would've taken to know my ban was caused by false votekick/report abuse.

But before a dev comes through and ACTUALLY reads this rant, as much as I don't expect them to, this all pales in comparison to how garbage optimization has become in this title. I could not tell you the COUNTLESS times I have had to restart this game or reenter lobbies because of how faulty the servers are. It seems like every other day I am encountering infinite loading times or lobby drops because they're that unstable, sometimes multiple times in a row. It just makes the game infuriating to work with when I'm trying to actually play.

Or what about the garbage netcode "optimization", or lack thereof? Again, COUNTLESS times I've gone and tagged someone in both Laser Tag and Paintball and sometimes up to three or four seconds later I'm dead anyway. Same goes for me, too. Sometimes I have a lag spike because my internet is overloaded in some way to encounter packet loss, which basically allows me to stop time and completely tag anyone in my vicinity without problems. This means anyone with basic lagswitch knowledge can immediately become even more of a threat because all they have to do is turn it on, tag, and go, or connect to distant countries for easy lag advantage.

I don't even want to get started on the rewards system. I literally cannot state more than what's already been said about how absolutely inept the team is when it comes to making a fair and balanced system. I have so much random garbage in my inventory it may as well be an account I can sell for real world money. I want tokens. Not 40 different pairs of gloves or a thousand different camera filters. No, I'm not financially supporting a game that begs me time and time again to buy shiny items with my hard earned money. I will literally play TF2 and do all that there instead before even touching this game's microtransaction system because there's at least a community of people I can respect there. I may be from an older generation of sweaty virgins, but I can't see myself stooping to this level.

This game is hot garbage. It's fun when it works, but there's too many insufferable and insulting issues this game developed in the past year alone. And before a dev or PR guy comes around to try and butter me up with ways to prolong the inevitable with a half-assed apology or whatever, here's my immediate counter; don't apologize to me, relay this ♥♥♥♥ back to your team silently and get people to fix this game. I don't want your pity, i want your action. I'm not even asking for me, because it seems like other people, especially recently, are of the same mindset.

This game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ phenomenal. I know it's gotten some ♥♥♥♥ for trying to baby the game journalists, and yes, I, too, find that pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ unacceptable, but dammit if this game wasn't loads of fun my review would be way worse.

This game is single-handedly one of my favorite games of all time because of the absolute power trip this game gives you when you EARN IT. Yes, you don't get the power trip right away, you get it by getting better, and that's what makes this game ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awesome. Learning the ins and outs of the mechanics of this game makes you a better player, not getting fed flashy mechanics like most other games do that is "win harder" kind of skills.

In relation to talking about catering to newbies, though, this game was ALWAYS accepting of them. There's absolutely no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ shame choosing the easiest difficulty to work yourself into how DOOM Eternal wants you to use your gear. You determine where your "fun zone" is. For some people it's on Nightmare difficulty, and for others it could be Hurt Me Plenty or even I'm Too Young To Die. This is the overarching criticism I have with this game considering it feels like id is trying to solve a problem that doesn't technically exist. There's no "honor" system by playing at the difficulty everyone else plays it, it's just how people play (and to whoever managed to start that I'm just gonna say piss off with that nonsense, it's toxic and is more than likely the reason why other people are complaining about nerfs in the recent DLC/update as of this review).

That being said. If we could roll back some of the mechanics to the state the game was in say like, september/october of last year, I'd feel pretty comfortable getting back into this game more often. The little changes aren't exactly helping me or people in my skill range get better if the skill ceiling gets lowered like it does. This game is fun BECAUSE it's brutal, and that's what made me feel so excited after beating TAG1, because I "got good". I wanna see more of that while still keeping the game interesting when adding new mechanics like the current Sentinel Hammer for DLCs.

Idk, i'm just a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ guy on the internet who wants to see this game stand its ground among other games that had varying degrees of success when doing so. I understand if id wants to try to make the game more fair for all skill sets, but just don't screw with the base game and what was already implemented.

I discovered it some time last year. It's a really solid game, so don't let the visual style fool you. This is quite literally a Metroid experience for absolutely free (which is absolutely awesome for people like me who have never played the games but wanted to), and it's infinitely replayable, so why not get it?? And it runs HECKIN smooth

oh and hyperspeed's my favorite powerup for many reasons >:)))
