The negative review is almost entirely for the cash grab nature of the game.

Every other facet of the game is fine, and I admit I enjoy it more than I thought I would. It's a game about girls with boobs kicking monster ass, and it's free. I can't fault the overall aesthetics and imperfect launch or a few janky mechanics.

However... almost everything in the game is behind a paywall.

I have yet to see a single skin available for a reasonable price - additional hairstyles, outfits, ears/tails, wings, weapon skins, races... All of that is behind a paywall, and a steep one at that. There are a few categories of cosmetics that can be earned/purchased via in-game money only, which I've outlined at the bottom of this review.

Tl;dr, the quality of the gameplay is forgivable given it being an early access title and the number of developers. I don't even have a problem with the F2P/gacha mechanics, personally. But for the love of god, please lower the prices on your "micro"transaction items.

I'll probably keep playing, but I have no intention of spending money on it until the price is lowered.

Now, a few tips for those playing the game:

Contrary to what people have posted in these reviews, there are a *few* specific types of cosmetics that can be acquired in game with no real life money:

1. Chokers (necklaces)
2, Hats and head gear
3. Gun skins
4. Capes

These can be acquired from the free loot boxes you earn by playing and logging in each day, or bought from merchants in the hub for currency you earn entirely in game.

Also, while there is a stamina system, it doesn't seem like stamina is needed for most activities. On top of that, you can freely regen your stamina by showering in the game (and not even the nude shower scenes that you unlock for real money - even the showers out near the battlefield will do!)

An expansion that took away more than it added. Fewer planets to explore, less content to partake in, fewer interesting guns to collect in a looter shooter. New subclasses were OP on launch in PvP and are now getting nerfed in a way that will also weaken them in PvE. Story and general expansion content is fine, but it cost the removal of far, far more than it added.

Bungie has promised content will be updated and rotated in and out of the game as this occurs as part of their Destiny vault system. Yet, what old content was left in the game was hardly updated to make it relevant in alongside what little new content was added, leaving little reason to revisit it, so why bother even keeping it under their own logic? And why bother look forward to future content (new and returning) when it comes at the expense of removing more along the way?

As someone with mixed (but generally positive) feelings towards Destiny 2 after it's transition onto Steam and F2P business model, a lot was riding on this release that could have really solidified the game as a go to suggestion for F2P games. Now I hardly feel a reason to play myself. Content I would have been interested in chasing due to missing out on it before is gone, and the added content is generally a lot of the same enemies we've been fighting, events we've been participating in, activity types we've been grinding already for years.

If you haven't played Destiny 2, it may be worth trying out to experience once. But it's hard to recommend when other games are available for free and are only adding content, not taking it away, and are adding innovative new content in each release... Not throwing us at hoards of the same basic enemies with the same tired skill sets we've had for years.

TL;DR - It's an alright game that gets boring and repetitive fast: Fight same types of enemies in the same context again and again, with the only difference being the guns you used and the environments you fight in. This expansion took reduced the pool of available weapons and removed entire planets and maps. You do the math.

Awesome Slay The Spire-like deckbuilding roguelike, but instead of building a deck for your single hero, you're building a deck of hellspawn to fill the layers of your demon train.

I'm just a few hours in and the game is satisfying and rewarding as hell (no pun intended.) Watching the synergies of your different monsters and spells activate each turn against those of your enemies is super exciting, and of course that feeling we all know well of stumbling upon that one awesome card that fits your build perfectly.

It's a bit easy at first (at least if you've experienced similar games) but still has a chance to rip that sense of security out from under you. Plus, I can't really complain about an easy win on the lowest difficulty since I had plenty of fun with it either way. I'm excited to play with the increased difficulty after unlocking it in my first victory run, and to unlock more of the clans to play with their different mechanics.

UPDATED REVIEW AS OF BEYOND LIGHT - 11/19/2020
(Included here as it affects the game as a whole. Old review still included at the bottom.)

=============

OLD/BASE GAME REVIEW

As a free to play game (and even when it was buy to play, or with expansions tacked on) the game is well worth it.

However, a major downside to me is that the game is just very, very repetitive. You seem to fight a lot of the same enemy types on different planets, and revisit a lot of the same content again.

Normally, that's not a problem, and I get that it's a part of the MMO genre and specific sub genre of shooters that Destiny is a part of. However, compared to other games in these genres, I just find myself getting burnt out so quickly, as the maps and content I do each day never really changes much (as opposed to something like Warframe with its randomized tile sets, or other MMO's which have more varied enemy types and larger maps in general.)

All things considered, though, it's a really good game that I would recommend!

This is perhaps the most satisfying little city builder I've played in a long while, if not ever. The graphics alone are so fun to look at, with tiny moving parts squeezed together or spread out across your city for you to take in your handiwork.

The general gameplay is somewhere between a city builder and a puzzle game as you struggle to squeeze various buildings, platforms, and facilities onto your tiny islands to maximize efficiency. It's challenging enough to keep you coming back for more as you learn new strategies, while also remaining simple and approachable through a very simplistic yet just-informative-enough interface that doesn't overwhelm you.

My only gripe at this early stage is that it might lack replayability at the later stages, but so far the varied map layouts, buildings, climates, and other details have made for a number of unique experiences.

This is just the game I've been looking for as a background, laid back but enjoyable and strategic game, and for $5 it's an absolute bargain.

Game runs amazingly well as long as you have the recommended specs for it, and from an optimization standpoint is very impressive as a port. i7 7700k, GTX 1080 FE, 16 GB of RAM here - Getting nearly 100 FPS at all times on all maxed graphics. Zero complaints from me.

I'll admit that the default controls for keyboard and mouse seem a little wonky, but you can change them to whatever you need, and the weirdness is forgivable considering that this is the first proper Monster Hunter game on PC. Then again, I'm biased as I'll be playing with controller anyway!

I've had very few of the connection issues people are reporting, except for a period of an hour or two yesterday when a friend and I kept getting booted from our co-op lobby. I have no doubt these issues will be fixed soon, though, as we're still on day one. If they aren't resolved, I'll change this review to a negative and eat my CPU.

My only gripe is the DRM protection, but it doesn't seem to be affecting my performance as much as it had in other games like Assassin's Creed, so I'll live with it.

Happy hunting, and may the Sapphire Star guide you!

Just got out of the first play through of this game with some friends over a Discord call, and I have to say it was fantastic and so much fun. The writing was hilarious and just so all over, chaotic, and silly.

Only one of us succeeded in getting the acceptance of their prom date. I cry everytime that it wasn't me.

This game needs better reviews. It's a really good turn based strategy game.

I've had 0 issues with performance aside from a few long load times. No crashes, steady FPS on max settings.

Short but sweet. Poetic, musical, and with a nice visual style to boot.
