AI for enemies has two modes. Non-existent and unfair. No in-between.

AI for allies is just always non-existent.

It makes PvE damn near insufferable at higher ranks.

So generous of Activision Blizzard to burn four years and kill their original, much better, game on three paid missions that can be completed in an hour with no replay-ability. /s

I have been here since the launch day of Overwatch back in 2016, with 800+ hours, for every step to get to this point. To say it has fallen from grace is the biggest understatement of our lifetimes. The original was forcibly ripped away from all who paid for it and was replaced with... Whatever the hell this is.

It's clear Activision Blizzard want nothing more than to milk as much money from players as possible. And with how hard the OW community is coping over the negative reviews, AB has their cows.

The community refuse to acknowledge the legitimacy of any of these reviews, calling it harsh, undeserved, and troll behavior. They are stuck in the mindset of 2016, of when things looked bright and hopeful. They're delusional, unable to accept reality. I will say this, though...

Don't blame the devs, blame the higher ups, like Bobby Suckscocks. They are the ones who killed the original Overwatch, turned the game into a predatory hell, ruined their employees lives, gave empty and broken promises, and don't care what it takes to get an extra penny.

This is not an indie company and they sure don't care about you, only your wallet. So don't die defending a product of the Cosby Suite Company, when they will treat you like they do their own employees.

There is a bug in this, that's been around since launch, that will randomly delete characters.

So, if you've sunken hundreds of hours into one character, which if you've played a MH game before you will, and it just ♥♥♥♥♥♥ poofs... That's a quit moment. That's a "I'm not playing through your ♥♥♥♥ games anymore, Capcom" moment. And Capcom either doesn't know(highly unlikely since almost every review on Steam is talking about it) or doesn't care cause they already have your money(very likely)

However, it's a good expansion, but that little bug is a major killer that can't be overlooked. I don't know if they'll ever actually fix it and since the final content update already occurred... It's lookin less likely every day.

A Masterwork of a Game!

Note: Italicized things were added with the Masterwork Edition update.

Pros

+Art style is cute and unique. It's not only vibrant, but also soft and defined. Both the 3D and 2D styles won me over just by looking at em. I would kill to get my hands on concept art. Genuinely wonderful to look at. I can't gush enough about it! It's just so gorgeous!

+OST is a banger through and through. Each character has their own unique theme that accompanies them, within their own corner of occupied space. Each lives rent free in my head and can instantly recognize which character said theme belongs to.

+The wide cast of characters are all very expressive, memorable, and stand out amongst the crowd. They all ooze personality and charm, with all of the named characters leaving a lasting impact. Elevated by the fact you'll be interacting with them and increasing your friendship on the regular. It never felt like a chore, however, and they all had depth to them. Adore them all and couldn't even find one to dislike.

+Almost every named character, aside from a handful, is romanceable. The added touch of having your interest blush and make flirtatious comments whenever Sylvia arrives is nice. Plus, so many of them make a cute adorkable pairing. Even with dialogue appearing and changing the context of rank up scenes. It always makes me smile to see this stressed out redhead find someone to settle down with.

+Sylvia is just such a likable anxious dork. Clearly intelligent and doing her best to be a good person, with the makings of a chaotic gremlin, if given the opportunity. I was rooting for her constantly and wanted her to succeed. To experience some brief semblance of ease/relief in the tsunami of stress she deals with on a daily basis. Yet, it's a bit funny/relatable how completely random comments will cause her to feel stressed and overthink.

+Making haggling into a card game is such an awesome way of going about being a store owner. It's easy to understand, but wow, does it get intense later. Getting new cards by ranking up friendships is nice, too. With each character giving their own playstyles, so there's something for everyone!

+I never wanted to leave. I loved getting attached to these characters and learning all the lore. I would kill for more games in this world!

+ Voice acting. Never in my life have I needed something so much and not known it, until I finally had it. The fact the original release did not have this is so mind boggling to remember/think about. I could tell each VA was having a blast, giving it their all, which only served to elevate the game to incredible heights. Delivering a home run for the personalities of this cast of wonderful characters!

+ Cozy mode lives up to its name. Removing the time constraints of traveling and ranking up left me breathing easier the entire time. I no longer had to juggle as intensely as before. Able to fully explore this world and get everything I need to nuke the competition out of the water, with time to spare! I was able to fully sink my teeth in this game and recognize its charm, without the stressful aftertaste. I HIGHLY recommend this mode.

+ Post game. Another thing I cannot believe wasn't apart of the base game. If you're far too focused on the competition, which you will be on classic and capitalist modes. You'll be rewarded with an endless sandbox to become the well loved potion tycoon you worked hard to achieve!

+ Polyamory! I can finally have my harem/reverse-harem I fully dreamed of! It's rare to see a dating game have a multi-option, but it fits right on in. Letting you date everyone, if you wish, without fear of fights or having your heart broken! This helps Potionomics stand out even further amongst its competition. In a world of magic, why must broken hearts be a thing? Happiness for all in Sylvia's circle!

+ $5 Boss Finn DLC is an interesting way to add a boss to the game, post competition. Normally, a mobster like him would bounce, and he originally did. However, with this cheap DLC, this shark man will stick around to teach Sylvia the ropes and help her to become the big fish in this small pond. If you so choose, even rule alongside with, as romantic partners in crime! I wonder if they'll do it for the other two bosses...

Cons

-Outside of cozy mode, you will be feeling as stressed as Sylvia does. Running around, managing your shop, befriending people, restocking, and getting ingredient upgrades all kill time. It feels INCREDIBLY TIGHT and leaves you with no real breathing room. 10 days sounds like a lot, but these constraints will make it feel insanely short. Unless you can tango with the stress, like a marketing-obsessed moth girl, I do not recommend selecting classic or capitalist mode for your first playthrough. Incredibly easy to soft-lock yourself.

-The tutorials are surface level and don't go into any real depth. You're mostly just going to be figuring it all out on your own. If it's your first time, I would recommend looking up some guides.

-There's no way to truly improve your deck. You do get new cards from people from time to time(some are just straight upgrades while others are nichely circumstantial), but since the limit is a hard 20, with no way to increase it(as far as I know), you're going to be staring at your customize deck screen quite a lot.

-No way to automate the process or get passive income. Adds to the no downtime con. Sure there's the vending machine, but it requires you to always be brewing and having stuff to sell on the side. So if you somehow back yourself into a corner, you're going to be forced to reload. Since you can't sell old shelves/cauldrons, or even ingredients, to make extra cash

-There's so many mechanics that it starts to become overwhelming after a certain point. There's the base crafting, then there's equipment upgrading, then expeditions, then in game loot boxes, then enchantments, then daily events, then marketing, then slime ranchin, and the list goes ON.

-There's also a ton of small QOL things the game doesn't have. Deck loadouts, potion ingredient loadouts, in depth organizers like alphabetical, ingredient types(fish, plant, flesh, etc), reorganzing your ingredient-potion inventories, giving all new ingredients to Quinn, etc. It's all small, but it does add up.

-Gets real repetitive and real predictable real quick. Meet your next foe, make potions, sell em, get ingredients, make more potions, pass the tournament, rinse and repeat.

-Some visual bugs that can be a tad annoying. I noticed every character twitching their eyes when they were talking, which, once you notice, you'll never look away from. Takes away from the scenes, but, admittedly, I'm starting to nitpick.

Concluding Thoughts

I played Potionomics back when it first released, two years ago, and found it to be one of the most stressful, and conflicted, gaming experiences I had ever had. I was so charmed and bewitched by the world, yet the strict time constraint, and no post game, made it one intensely stressful time. One I really did not want to revisit. Yet, Voracious Games has not only remedied these blemishes, but completely turned around Potionomics reputation in the process, at least in my eyes.

I was originally giving this game a hard maybe, but now? I must scream it to the world! It is a swift and definitive
