A little different to sitting in the cockpit, but when you're off the battlefield and sitting in the ship it will feel quite similar to MW2:Mercenaries, as you adjust loadouts and select contracts. Gameplay is good, although a little bit of a groan sometimes if you have to move four slow mechs, leapfrogging, on a zig zag path down a huge, empty map. That's not a dealbreaker though. There are also long dialog scenes and cinematic thingies, which have had a lot of TLC put into them, so that's great if you're into that sort of thing.

Overall, there's a mix of a few traditional battletech universe things going on here, which is cool for nostalgia and pretty hard to put down once you pick it up.

EDIT after playing another 160 hours:
The complaint about having to move slow mechs a long way through an empty map... Not so bad after all. Firstly, there are lots of options in the settings menu that can make this aspect a bit more pleasant. Secondly, it was mostly an issue for me on the mission where you take the shipwreck from the grumpy pirate lady. Didn't really notice it after that.
