Fun classic gun n' run platformer, challenging but forgiving enough to make you feel in the flow.

This mod is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awesome and they did an amazing job. It really feels like an entirely different game (in a good way), and all the interactions are well polished. Hitting manhacks with a crowbar is now incredibly satisfying. Weapons are well designed and feel good. If you're into VR, this it THE definitive way to play Half-Life 2. There's still some work they need to do, but those are mostly nitpicks, and at the current state this game is already better than many VR games.

This mod is also proof that Valve could make a Gordon Freeman-centered Half-Life game in VR and it'd work really well.

2021 reviewv, played on Oculus Quest 2 with Air Link:[/b]

It's been 4 years since this game released and I can say that this game wasn't ready for Its time, but times have changed.

If really feels like a pre-Alyx pre-Boneworks VR game when developers were still figuring out what worked and what didn't work in VR. Some of the biggest misfires are:
- There's no way to turn with the controller: This makes it so that playing this game with a wired headset is a real nightmare. Playing this with a wireless headset, however, is a whole other story. More on that later.
- The jumping mechanic: to jump in this game you have to lift your hands very quick. It's weird, it doesn't work well, but you get used to it. I'm glad no one has used if since.
- It's very short: This is the Blue Shift to Half-Life, except even shorter than that. It doesn't follow the main story, and feels inconsequential. It also goes very fast.
- You're not the Doom Slayer: Yeah, I dunno. You're some dude.

Now, with that said, playing this on a wireless headset with 120hz screen is completely different than the experience people got when this game first came out. For starters, turning around, while still a chore, is not as big of a deal and adds a fun extra challenge. It works best on a wireless headset.

After having played Alyx, Boneworks, Stormland and Hyper Dash, I can say that with 4 years of practice, this game is not as nauseating as it was for the fragile stomach of the original VR gamers who couldn't handle but the softest and kindest form of locomotion, and couldn't take more than 2 enemies on the screen at the same time. Running around with the joystick is a fun time and it makes you feel like a real Doom Slayer. This game can be a challenge on its hardest difficulty, but it's not more difficult than the average Hyper Dash match.

Some things I'm neutral about:
- Glory kills: To glory kill a stunned enemy, you teleport on top of it. It's ehh. It works, but it could be more interesting. I realize that budget constraints probably meant they never invested in some robo-recall like system.
- Powerups like melee: They're kind of awkward. They work, you hit things, but it's not the best implementation.
- Forced teleportation: To get to certain places, you have to teleport. Always an immersion breaker, but it's not that bad. There's no physics interaction. Not even ladders or pulling yourself up like in Doom 2016. I get why that is the case.

Aside from that, this game has all the goodness of Doom 2016. All the enemies are there, as well as all the weapons except for the chainsaw. You go through the facility. You kill demons. There's nothing much else to ask. It is a fun, short game. I don't think it's worth its normal cost, but for sure, pick it up when it's $10 or $15.

This is a visual novel, so I'll judge primarily on the story.
But first, some good:
- Music is pretty cool.
- Some animations are cool.
- Some sequences are coo.
- Actually, the artstyle is good.

Without spoilers, this story has a weird sense of pacing and it doesn't really have anything to say. The only likable character is a character who doesn't say anything at all. The main character is unlikable, but her intentions are never challenged.
Most of the writing comes across like a weird sort of platonic dialogue where the characters discuss their ideals. It's often very boring. I don't know what the author believes, so I don't wanna say they're mouthpieces for the author, but often, it feels like it doesn't have anything to say. Mysteries never get resolved, and don't expect any answers by the end. The ending is unsatisfying and jarring.

It's very long, boring, and often mean-spirited. Don't recommend it.

Everything about this game is cool as ♥♥♥♥ and it'll be regarded as an overlooked masterpiece. You're doing a disservice to yourself if you don't play this game.

This feels like a real proper VR AAA game. There are other good games out there, but the level of polish and the linear storytelling of this game is something unheard in VR. Like the previous Half-Life games, I believe this will set a standard that games will try to copy for the next couple of decades.

What Oats is ing is truly amazing. The films are top quality sci-fi and satire, and releasing the datafiles for filmmakers is an amazing idea that I've never seen before. Here's to hoping this project succeeds with its expectations.

Sadly, this game has become yet another pay-to-win title. And the worst part is that it has a fresh metagame and, for the most part, a creative style and direction. It separates itself from its competitors with a gameplay that is fundamentally different.

Too bad Hi-Rez decide to kill their golden goose. I would have gladly paid forty dollars for this game in exchange to have all champions unlocked, to have the over-grinding elements removed, and to be able to play with other players on the same level field.

All I have to say is that I hope the developers reconsider the state of the game and take example in other free titles that have a fairer business model (such as Team Fortress 2).
