If you are more into the colony simulation stuff, Songs of Syx might be what you are looking for too ;)
DD1's difficulty comes in its resource management and by keeping your veteran characters alive to face the horrors that lurk in the depths of the state, whereas DD2's difficulty comes in choosing the right skill set and character combos to affront the unpredictability of its RNG.
Another way to put it would be like this: DD1 = Plan carefully, choose the right items, each dungeon is unpredictable. DD2 = Be creative, plan as you go, be adaptable. So, to answer your question, it depends on *how* you like to suffer haha.
