This game is truly amazing and absorbs all of my free time for about one month or so every year whenever I get the itch to play it again. Rimworld has the unique advantage of being a "fiction primer" type of game where the lore is very bare bones to begin with and the story is what you make of it. I've seen plenty of webcomics based on the events in a Rimworld save where the creator either builds a story around the events of their game, or uses the game as a starting point to launch an entire series. But I digress...

Rimworld is a base-builder/colony-management survival sim game. It can be very difficult at first, and there are definitely a couple ways a colony can die in what feels like the most ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of ways (Hello manhunter tortoise) but once you get the hang of it, and your colony can survive the first couple of weeks then the game becomes super satisfying. Watching your base grow as you recruit more colonists and they make new weapons and armor to protect themselves, and your colony expands to provide space for everyone and everything.

The DLC are all pretty decent expansions in my opinion, though I hold Biotech in especially high regards. It just adds so much to the game that feels right that I genuinely cannot have another vanilla experience.

My current colony is a vampire cult that sells illicit drugs, pleasure-inducing brain implants, goat meat, and uranium statues in order to fund their super-soldier breeding program. And of course, no vampire-based economy can function without an incredibly ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up human rights violation of a prison where the prisoners are shoved into the smallest size cell possible, both legs chopped off so they cant escape, drained of blood as frequently as possible without causing serious medical issues, with brain implants that flood the body with pain 24/7. You may think it's wrong, but hey, the empire is chill with me so clearly it isn't that bad.
