Early Access Review
-intrusive anti-cheat
-out of place realism mechanics (no crosshair, no minimap, no ammo count, etc.) that make a 254 player game more random and less skill based
-grindy and sparse in progression

for now it's just a subpar Battlefield clone

Good:
graphical overhaul that better shows extra details like what weapons are being held by a dwarf
UI overhaul lets you play with one hand

Bad:
music/ambient sound is annoying
repetitive clicking to rack up work orders for one thing, old keybinds gutted

one of the best singleplayer FPS games you will play

multiplayer is a total flop. no DM/TDM/CTF, no multiplayer horde mode, no snapmap, and invasion mode was canceled. all you have is terrible 2v1 battlemode that nobody plays

this game takes an open world with good melee combat and stuffs it with systems that are pretty engaging. it wears off quickly over time though and you'll see how much of it is copy and paste. there's not enough RPG mechanics for the character to make up for it, so everything ends up being pretty cookie cutter

It's ET. This is a class-based multiplayer classic based on the Quake 3 engine, which is an FPS favorite, from the golden days of PC gaming. I still reference this as a standard when judging FPS games. It was originally supposed to be a successor to Return to Castle Wolfenstein but that was canceled and the highly moddable multiplayer component was released in 2003. It helped define PC multiplayer gaming in the 2000s. I joined my first clan in this game. It was called KWB, Kids With Beards.

It combines the old, high skill cap formula of fast movement (you sprint when you're in combat not to get to it) and accurate hipfire (no ADS) with hitscan bullets. There is server-specific player progression where you level up your class, battle sense, and weapon handling. Maps are based on objectives like escorting a tank and bombing a fuel depot while constructing preplaced assets like MGs and resupply points. Classes like engineer can place mines, field ops drops ammo and calls in air strikes or artillery, covert ops can loot dead enemies to disguise themselves, soldiers have heavy weapons like bazookas, and the medic can heal everyone including themselves (there is no health regen) and revive.

Back in the day this game had a huge modding and mapping community that took it in all sorts of directions, like trickjump, low grav instagib, and gold rush (players drop gold on death that you return to your cap). One popular type of custom map made players like ants in the rooms of a house. Over the years, this created problems because many servers ran custom maps you couldn't download while loading and had to find them online (back in the day it was filefront). Bot programs were developed which filled servers. This made it more difficult to find a good game. ETLegacy is a custom client that developed workarounds for this.
