For me, this is probably one of the weakest of the “Dark Pictures Anthology” entires. It’s not that it’s bad, it just didn’t give me the same creepy vibe that Man of Medan did and the story wasn’t as interesting as some of the other entries.

That said, it’s not a bad experience and for a discounted price it’s worth the play time.

For those looking to see the game before you buy, or if you are looking to watch a full play through, I humbly offer my video for your consideration: https://youtu.be/wzdT_SXNTZg

This is the first entry in the “Dark Pictures Anthology” from Supermassive Games. This one has been my favorite of the entries I have played.

I love how this game has subtle scares in the background (outside of cutscenes) that, if you’re paying attention, adds a lot of creepiness to the experience.

For those that are not aware of what these games are generally like, they are essentially a playable movie with a branching narrative story (for those that remember the term, it’s basically a choose your own adventure book in game form). You make choices that change the outcome of the story.

So, for starters, this is not a bad game. The graphics are good, the voice acting is great, sound design is well done, and the story is serviceable.

My problem with the game is that the game play starts to get really repetitive very quickly. With a play time of around 4-5 hours, repetitive gameplay starts to wear on me.

That aside, if you can get this game on sale, it’s definitely worth picking up to experience.

In some ways, I think that this game is a couple steps back for the developer (N4bA) from their previous games.

That said, I don’t think this game is bad, and for the price tag, I think it’s a good time.

There are a number of good scares here, so if you’re looking for a good walking sim game with a short playtime then I don’t think you will regret picking this up.

This was a fun and short gaming experience, I would recommend this game to anyone looking for a cheap walking sim style game for about an hours worth of enjoyment.

N4bA, the developer of this game, has a series of games that are pretty good. This one, for me personally, is not as good as the previous one “From the Darkness” but it is still a slight step up visually from the previous one.

Of all the games released by this developer (N4bA), From the Darkness is my favorite.

This game has very solid atmosphere, the graphics are great, the story is really good, and it’s a very cheap buy in for a fun experience. Definitely recommend.

I personally had never played the original Resident Evil 3, so I didn’t have any personal experience to compare to the remake. From what I understand, a lot of people who played the original didn’t like the remake.

Not having that frame of reference, I actually really liked this game. It was pretty short for a RE game, but it looked really good and what it offered up was a lot of fun. It is certainly worth the price tag if you can get it on sale.

It will be important to go into this game understanding that it is definitely a lower budget indie horror experience.

With that in mind, this game was a fun ~1 hour experience for a cheap price tag. N4bA, the developer of this game, has a series of games (this one being their first) and they progressively have gotten better. I would recommend the lot of them of you enjoy short fun walking sim style games.

Controversial art style choices aside, I thought this was a good addition to the original Monkey Island games from Ron Gilbert.

This game picks up after Monkey Island 2, and carries the same vibe into this new adventure. Fun puzzles, great story, good voice acting, and, after a bit, the art style grows on you.

Definitely recommend the game for anyone that loved the first 2 in the series.

General Info
Playtime: This game took me ~14 hours to complete, which includes the Final Transmission DLC (which took ~3 by itself). I am not sure how much I missed in terms of exploring, though I did do a fair amount of that.

Save System: The game auto saves at certain points, but there is a manual save feature. I have noticed that, occasionally, when reloading a manual save it isn't accurate up to the time that you saved. It will sometimes make you have to redo a few things (usually fairly minor).

The Callisto Protocol is a scifi horror game, EXTREMELY similar to the story of Dead Space. Not a bad thing, or a criticism, just something very noticeable. That said it is a dark and gritty game with enemies that hit pretty hard and a combat system that prioritizes dodging attacks as much as possible.

Flashing Lights Warning: Game contains a decent amount of strobe effect on lights. So, if that's a concern, might want to skip this one.

My Thoughts
I thought the game was good, it was hard to shake the entire time that this felt like Dead Space lite but I loved DS so that was fine for me. The story itself is well told and well acted. The environments and sounds were well crafted to enhance the experience.

The one real negative thing that I have to say about the game is that the combat system, while engaging, can be incredibly inconsistent sometimes (not dodging or blocking when you have clearly hit the controls to do it). This would not be a huge deal, except the combat is pretty unforgiving. Even with full health, a couple hits from a normal enemy will destroy you (single hits from a boss can wipe you). As the game puts you in situations where you are often mobbed up on by a group, dying can happen a lot. That's fine, it just feels cheap when it happens because the game didn't do what you told it to.

Recommendation
If you liked Dead Space and wanted an experience similar to that in tone, then this game is worth buying (I'd recommend getting it on sale though). The Final Transmission DLC is a nice addition to the main story, so I'd say pick that up too.

Game Play
Alright, time for some self promotion. Below you can find a video of the first part of my play through, it can serve as a guide to what the game will look/feel like and hopefully will help to inform your purchase decision. If you don't mind hitting subscribe on my channel (it's free) please do so.
