Update:

This is one of my favourite games ever. It's not for everyone, but it's certainly an absolute masterpiece. And at the price tag, it's basically robbery.

Better than the first game in pretty much every way.

Just play it.

Got this game a while ago, and ngl, it was kinda boring. I knew quite a few people who loved this game so I thought hey why not, I like open world games and shooting things, but this game's world just feels very bland. The environment isn't very exciting, the gunplay is mediocre, and the story (from what I played), was bad, but I heard far cry stories have historically been pretty meh. Was hoping the gameplay would make up for it but it didn't.

Idk,like I said, quite a lot of people do like this game, it just wasn't for me.

Fast paced demon shooting action. Some demons are kinda annoying, parkour sections are a bit meh, but combat is great aside from running out of ammo all the time. Smashing demons faces in and choppin em up is super fun.

So, I'm updating my review: This game is fantastic, but it is absolutely not for everyone, and has a few glaring flaws that stop it from being a masterpiece.

The combat, is so freaking good. Seriously. The learning curve here is insanely high. This game is all about learning attack patterns and timing your parries to break an enemy's posture meter to deathblow them. It's so simple, yet so satisfying, and there is a very very high skill ceiling here.

Most of the bosses are excellent, however there are a few outliers. There are a few bosses that place extra enemies in the arena with you, which if you don't deal with them first, makes the boss extremely hard, if not impossible. I don't like this design, it's just a massive time waster and feels more like artificial difficulty. Thankfully these kinds of fights are few and far between, and the bosses that work well, are damn amazing.

Some bosses (Like the literal second miniboss you fight) are just straight up badly designed, and it's a shame when there are so many good ones here, but the bad ones are BAD, and they really sour the experience sometimes, especially when there's lots of bosses in this game, and I mean LOTS.

The story here is surprisingly good. It's probably not going to be your main focus, but the game has 4 different endings that are all worth experiencing.

This is the type of game I found I enjoyed more the second time round (And subsequently the third and 4th to get all endings) since I was competent in my skills and everything just felt amazing. The first time I played - I had never gotten so angry at a game in my life, and I'm not even an angry person. The learning curve is BRUTAL, and if you hate that, then absolutely do not buy this game.

Overall, I'm giving Sekiro an 8.5/10 now. An absolutely incredible game, just shy of a masterpiece.

The short review - So, I finally finished the game, after doing almost everything I could. It's safe to say, I didn't want it to end. It's truly one of the best game's I've ever played. If you like open world games, and robot dinosaurs, you'll love this game.

The long review:

First, the thing that everyone cares about - performance. For me, it was stable. Running the game at 60-90fps on ultra/high on my rtx 2070 super at 1080p. My game had stutters when travelling the world on a mount, and sometimes when the quest markers would update. I never experienced a stutter during combat. Over my course of playing, I had 1 crash, which was when I left Google Chrome open in the background. However, other people have been experiencing massive stability issues. Therefore, you can either get the game and see how it runs, and if it runs badly, refund it. Or, you could wait until a patch comes through to solve the crashes and things, which Guerilla have already said they are working on. The performance certainly isn't great, but I've seen worse.
Edit: I removed 90% of my stuttering by running a benchmark, then going into nvidia control panel, and setting my FPS limit to the average FPS from that benchmark (Which in my case was 95).

Next, the story - Absolutely amazing. Definitely the strongest aspect of this game, even though the hunting robot dinosaurs is extremely fun too. As you go through the game, you start piecing things together, and learning the world along with Aloy, the protagonist. It's extremely well done. Aloy's voice actor is superb, though some people don't like her, I actually did. Though, some of the poor facial animations ruin the emotion in some of her lines. I'll keep this short because I don't want to spoil anything - Just know, it's really really good.

This game looks stunning. Even though it came out 3 years ago, the visuals still exceed, or are on par with some games that have been released this year, and last year. It's a super pretty game to look at, and I enjoyed travelling the world, and looking at new sights. The character models are well done, but the facial animations are a different story. Some, not all, of the facial animations are still in 30fps, which looks a bit odd sometimes. The faces tend to lack emotion a lot of the time, because they look pretty static. The lighting in this game is excellent. Every time of day offers something unique, and even night time, and lighting in the rain look really excellent. Overcast days are usually badly done in most games, as everything loses it's shadow, and the world looks dull, but here, it's very atmospheric. No complaints about the visuals, though, I did have one or two lighting flickers during cutscenes, and an area where shadows appeared completely black.

Gameplay - If you've played open world games before, it follows the same sort of formula, but adds a unique twist on things. You work your way through the levels to unlock new skills, hunt machines to get parts to build more weapons and gear to kill monsters more efficiently, and build up your arsenal of weapons. There's a load of weapons to mess around with in this game. It keeps the combat fresh, and it's an addicting loop.
The game falls short on its human enemies, which are just kinda dumb, and the combat system clearly wasn't designed with humans in mind.
Killing machines on the other hand, is extremely fun. Working out how to kill a dangerous new machine is super fun, and when you finally take down that big bad machine you were afraid of, it feels great. There's a lot of variety here in terms of machine combat, with 26 different types of machines.
The game does feature climbing, but it's very basic, and kinda annoying at times. I really wished they had a freeclimb feature, like Breath of the wild, or AC, because the climbing in this game is more like Tomb raider, but more clunky. Sometimes, Aloy doesn't jump to ledges automatically, you have to press space, but it's not always clear when you have to do that, so sometimes you're holding a direction and realise you're not climbing anymore, and you're like "oh, yeah, space" (It also sometimes straight up doesn't work). It gets rid of the flow, and it's defo something they could improve a lot upon.

Music: The soundtrack for this game is great. Never underestimate the power of great music in games. It makes combat more intense, and travelling calming. The main theme just gives ya chills.

TLDR - It's a fantastic game, if you look past the rocky launch, which I'm sure will be made more stable in the future. An absolute must-play in my opinion

Simply put: If you like killing monsters, and having lots of content in your games, this is the game for you. For a 5 year old game, it still looks great, and looks even better with mods. Certainly a must play. There's a reason this game is rated so highly.
