The best game I've ever played.

Honestly deserves game of the year. Baldur's gate, zelda and spiderman have absolutely nothing on the sheer innovation, polish and love this game has poured into it. A must play for anyone who likes games.

Early Access Review
Very good game. A bit grindy, especially when playing with friends, but mods can help with that.

Got many hours on this on origin (now EA play I guess), and it's genuinely one of the best FPS games ever made. It's just a shame that it didn't get its time in the spotlight. It still stings that a potential titanfall 3 was cancelled for apex legends.

Realised I hadn't updated my review for this since I finished it.

The game is really enjoyable, more so if you're already a harry potter fan. It doesn't do anything to innovate on the open world genre, so if you're tired of open world games, maybe give it a miss.

The game has pretty horrible stuttering issues though, still does last I checked, so be warned.

Actually a very good game. Most of the major bugs have been patched, but despite that the game is still more buggy than your average AAA title, but it doesn't take away from the experience.

Didn't realise I hadn't reviewed Iceborne yet sooo:

Short and sweet. This DLC adds a massive amount of new content (seriously, it's like a whole new game), a clunky mandatory mechanic, and is significantly harder than the base game, especially the last few monsters.

If hard games aren't your thing, or you only thought base MHW was just okay, then don't get it. If you loved base world, like a challenge, and can get over the hump of using the clutch claw (which sucks), then I 100% recommend this DLC. It's some of the most fun I've had in a video game ever.

So, after all this time: I love this game BUT...

I love Monster hunter world more.

If World was your first MH game (Like it was mine), then don't go into this game expecting things to be like they are in world, cause they absolutely aren't. For me, that core gameplay loop remains the same and that's why Rise is still a fantastic game.

Pros:
Combat here, is amazing of course. Monster hunter games have been going for years, and the result is a combat system refined like no other. Rise's combat is fluid and fast paced, and offers lots of variety with switch skills that change a weapon skill out for a different one.

Streamlined looting - This seems like a minor thing, but not having to sit there and smack a crystal 3 times to get all the resources is great. It makes going out of your way to pick up those resources a bit less tedious.

Weapon design - Much better than world here imo. Most of the weapons in world were just metal or bone weapons with monster parts on them. Weapons here actually look cool as heck. Armour designs not so much other than the final one you get but I won't spoil that.

Cons:
No more hunting for tracks. Monsters are always marked on the map as a "?" until you encounter them once and then you can always see them. Makes it more like a boss rush than a hunt.

Now I'm not sure if it's cause I have like 850hrs on MHW, but rise seems extremely easy. I've fought almost every monster (Aside from a few apexes) and haven't failed a quest once. Wirebugs are a contributor to this imo. You can get hit and just zip out of follow up attacks.

Endgame? World had this issue, but the endgame here is again, similar to base world. The only thing to do is grind for RNG talismans and min-max yourself as much as possible. Unfortunately the best way to meld for talismans is rampage quests, which just aren't very fun.

TLDR: If you like monster hunter, you'll probably like Rise, but it definitely leaves me wanting more. Hopefully Sunbreak will be that thing for Rise that iceborne was for world.

Oh, and the story sucks, but that's a given.
