I loved this game visually when I first saw it and it does hold up in that regard. The visuals and audio are both a pleasure and will not disappoint. However, the gameplay just doesn't hold up long enough to keep my interest. I never finished my first playthrough after growing bored of the game and after finally sitting down to beat it, it didn't even take me 10 hours.

I quite enjoyed learning about the mechanics in both shop and dungeons, but the novelty wears off quickly as there's nothing to mix up the formula or challenge you later on. The process of clearing every dungeon feels exactly the same, even down to upgrading your equipment and unlocking new upgrades. And unfortunately, the combat does little to compensate with excitement. Every fight feels awkward and drawn out, due to the limitations of the combat system.

The shop is similarly flawed, offering an interesting mechanic of being able to sell items slightly overpriced before people stop buying. However, roughly after moving on to the second dungeon of the game, the process of manning the shop became so routine that it was almost grating and I normally I enjoy flipping items as a shopkeeper.

tl;dr The game is alright. In terms of graphics and music, it delivers. The gameplay, both looting and selling, are fun at first and become extremely repetitive. The combat as well as the rather brief story lack depth. Finally the game is quite short at under 10 hours.

If you're looking for a little distraction and can pick this up on sale for maybe 5$ or 10$, you might enjoy it. I definitely can't recommend it at full price though.

Yeah, it's alright

Bought this a while back because I thought it looked fun on Youtube. Everytime I came back to play it again there was so much new and great content to enjoy. Personally, this was probably the best deal I've ever made when buying a game. The combat is fun, you have a lot of choice in how you want to build your character each run and I actually like replaying it again and again. Amazing/10

Best birthday gift I've ever given to someone.

Everything about this game is excellent. The gameplay is interesting and varied, the controls are smooth and responsive and the atmosphere is spot-on with beautiful backgrounds and the soundtrack to accompany them. Hollow Knight does an amazing job of guiding the player without much direct interference and still allows for a lot of freedom and I mean A LOT. If you don't give it a shot, you're definitely missing out.

I bought FTL when I joined Steam years ago and I've enjoyed it ever since. It features everything a rougelike desperately needs: lots of variety, fair but crushing difficulty and plenty of room for strategies. I love this game from the bottom of my heart, so if you're looking for a great game to put hours into or just for a cheap game to pick up during a sale, you found what you needed.
