Pikuniku is a wacky platformer set to a whimsical soundtrack. There's a lot of humor throughout, and the pacing and presentation of jokes and gimmicks was well paced and it didn't feel like things overstayed their welcome. In addition to the main 6-7 hour story, there's a few local coop level which, while I didn't finish all of them, were fun and well designed. Overall a fun game with good presentation.

I purchased this game because it seemed fun, but I was very pleasantly surprised by how high quality it was. There's a surprisingly amount of humor that actually made me laugh, and the game's open world was far more fleshed out than I expected. It looks like a lot of people jokingly compare the game to GTA, but the completeness of the world does beg the comparison (however with all mature themes removed). There's probably 15 hours of story levels, in a style that will be fairly familiar to anyone that's played other Lego titles such as Lego Star Wars. They slowly unlock abilities that are used in collectathon-esque challenges in the open world. The one thing I would note is that I'd highly recommend playing with a controller as I found the keyboard controls to be confusing when I started out. Having put 50 hours in the game to achieve 100% completion it was definitely well worth $20, and can likely be found for far less during sales.

RYB is a minesweeper-esque logic puzzle where you fill irregularly shaped regions with colors. When playing, I was struck by how intuitive the puzzles and controls are, something I didn't initially appreciate from the store page. There's 2-3 hours of puzzles here, which range through several mechanics acting as variations on the color minesweeper theme. The only criticism I have is that while not required, it is pretty easy to guess at parts of a solution before fully solving them. This is remedied with personal restraint, but I found myself solving levels that way on a few occasions. Especially now that the game is available for free, I'd definitely recommend it as a short and fun logic puzzle.

PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate is a fun twin stick shooter that contains the levels and bosses from the original PixelJunk Shooter as well as the levels from PixelJunk Shooter 2 - though I think this is the only way to play those additional levels on Steam. The game is satisfying to play, and the ship is fun to control and zip around in. Where the game really shines are in the liquid physics that are a big part of the levels, which are also a lot of fun to interact with. The zen is lost a little by the fact that the current stage resets if you overheat or die, but the stages are small - a few screens in size - and it is quick to jump back in, resulting in a gameplay loop that sometimes feels like trying to find the optimal approach to the given stage.

The main downside that comes to mind with the game is that I didn't enjoy the new levels as much as the originals, which likely isn't too surprising as the original game set a high bar. They were still fun, but the mechanics introduced seemed slightly more frustrating, and detracted from my enjoyment a little. If you've already played the original PixelJunk Shooter, the first 3 worlds are largely unchanged, but the new 3 deliver on the itch for more content in the same style. If you're hoping to get all the achievements, you'll also need a friend to play the pvp mode against for a few minutes, I wouldn't expect to find anybody naturally in the queue.

Overall a game I'd recommend, and if you haven't played the first PixelJunk Shooter, this is the edition I would recommend picking up since the original is contained here in full.

While rhythm-based FPS roguelike is an unusual combination, it is executed very well by BPM. The combat is fast paced and set to a phenomenal metal soundtrack, and while the colors are very saturated, it is a design decision that leans in to what the game is aiming to be. There's a fair bit of skill progression through learning enemy movement and firing patterns, but attacks are telegraphed well so few deaths feel cheap. The guns are incredibly satisfying to shoot, especially in a rhythm-based setting, and I have, and will likely continue to, return to the game from time to time just to run around, shoot enemies, and rock out to the music.

While the puzzles weren't overly difficult, I found The Last Campfire fun to play. The environments are cute, and while I was originally apprehensive about the narration, it grew on me over the course of the game, building an interesting narrative throughout the game. Took me a little under 6 hours to complete with all achievements, which was a decent length without overstaying its welcome.

HIiro is a very calm game with a focus on exploration and discovery. While there are a few puzzles to solve, most of the game is simply exploring the world and collecting objects along the way. The music helps set the mood as relaxed and tranquil, and the game provides some hints to tracking down remaining collectibles, so finding everything is an achievable task, even without outside resources. The main complaint I have with the game is that if you plan to get all the achievements, the final achievement requires completing a secret mini-game, which is of a completely different genre from the rest of the game, and is by no means easy. It is doable, but probably a third of my playtime is spent on that minigame alone. It doesn't prevent me from recommending the game as a peaceful experience, but it does take away from that mood a little.

The Room is a puzzle game about opening 3D puzzle boxes with 5 levels, which took me around 2 hours. The puzzles were satisfying to solve, and the game avoided the potentially frustrating scenario of being unable to locate the one piece you need to progress by providing automatic clues of increasing obviousness the more you search without finding anything. There are a few controls that feel like they're designed for a touch input rather than PC, but overall the game felt intuitive, and I enjoyed playing it.

Monument Valley 2 succeeds at providing more levels in the Monument Valley style. Similar to the panoramic edition of the first game, the PC port of this seems really good, and while not entirely free from mobile-esque inputs, the controls and menus feel natural enough for the platform. There's not quite as much content as the panoramic edition of the first game, as there's only 15 total levels in the sequel, including the bonus level, and while I feel like this one didn't make as effective a use of the backgrounds for larger screens, I do think it succeeded in telling a more coherent story, still in a minimalist style. I wouldn't recommend it over the first game, but if you played and enjoyed the first game, I'd recommend this one, especially if you can pick it up at a discount.

While I'm usually skeptical of PC ports of mobile games, I was pleasantly surprised by Monument Valley. The visual style is preserved well, using isometric fixed perspectives to warp the levels in otherwise impossible ways. The visual style definitely benefits from the conversion to larger screens. A few of the controls still rely on dragging the mouse in ways that aren't initially intuitive, but most of the controls are ported well to a PC format. In terms of the puzzles, they aren't overly difficult, but there were a few that were moderately difficult. It isn't an overly long game, but it is one I'm glad I played.
