ABOUT Pikachu's Canadian Server of Romance and Drama

A little place for little things to happen.

Just a small Canadian (formerly, now US West) space full of optional goodies and bots (of the bleeding-edge variety).

For people to sit around and play video games. Get comfy!

Quick rundown of features:
• A collection of stock and custom maps. Few gimmicky maps. Most of the maps are of the quality and polish you'd expect from those community servers that don't exist anymore.
• No random critical hits, fixed bullet spread, and no damage spread.
• Bot support. Play even when nobody else is around!
• Hand-crafted plugins for optional gameplay improvements that feels as close to native to TF2 as possible. Want to turn off cosmetics? Go for it. Can't remember where you dropped your buildings and want to see them through walls? We got that.
• An extended end-round prop hunt to cool down between serious rounds. Optional music, too.
• No annoying MOTD advertisements. There's occasional messages from your local admin in the chat, but those can be disabled.
• No game-changing donation incentives. Well, there isn't really a built-in mechanism for donations anyways.
• Completely optional downloads. (They're a bit hackish in that you'll try to download them on map change, but they actually won't be downloaded.)

Settling in...
Moving homes again
What this means for you:

Same as the previous announcement - you'll be connecting to a different server. Different hardware, different IP address.

  • Effective immediately, the game server will no longer be reachable via the IP / port combination of 104.128.68.234:27015. I've provisioned a new VPS as of earlier this morning, so consider it TBA.
  • The game server and site will remain reachable via the csrd.science domain name once it is online and I've updated my DNS configuration to point to the new server. The site will remain available during this migration.
  • The game server will remain available in your Favorites list. (You will need to readd the SourceTV relay if you saved that, however.)

What this means for me:

I've migrated the entire disk as-is to the new provider this time around, instead of building up a fresh install and determining the quirks of such. Surprisingly doable. Must be a KVM thing.

The VScript update broke a ton of stuff with my custom bot logic, so I'll be taking some time to focus on bringing the server back to full operation. Should be back within three days.

Still Alive,

and no worries about the bot manager, just that the one on alliedmods has trouble with bot names with numbers at the start and some other symbols. just need to mess about with my list of names to stop weird stuff happening.

oh sweet. thanks for that!

@Murg Hi - the bot control code is now available here as last used in 2018; any necessary updates and fixes are up to you to deal with: https://git.csrd.science/nosoop/SM-TFAFKBot or https://csrd.science/misc/tf_afkbot.zip

The bot manager itself is still internal, though I can tell you that it overrides CTFBotManager::MaintainBotQuota() and calls NextBotCreatePlayerBot<CTFBot>() directly. I think the only benefit to it (aside from avoiding brittle command issuing) is that it gives you the actual client index.

yo, couple o questions: i noticed on youtube you cooked up a plugin that would place a default bot in control of the player - i was wondering if that's publicly available anywhere? that and the updated version of the bot manager. just for a private server with me and a few friends. cheers

@Tea f2: Navigation mesh updated; manually installed blockers seem to work just fine. Also redid the first point BLU right shack and upper routes from first point to second / third so they're properly traversible as a one-way (BLU won't attempt to backtrack through them when looking for health / ammo).

@Tea f2: Thanks for the report! I actually do recall seeing that; left it on low-prio because of other things that needed work and subsequently forgot. I'll need to refresh my memory on why manually applying blockers didn't work.

I did some research on how navigation areas get blocked while working on Arena support (and am able to refer to another person's work reverse-engineering the navigation mesh logic), so I should have a slightly clearer idea of what may be happening once I look over the map again.
