Non-moderated forums, How to deal with them?
Help Valve & Steam & the Community with your thoughts on how to deal with non-moderated groups
F.e. what’s your favorite in-game system for requesting for new city/guild/alliance/atl. leaders when previous leader accounts aren’t active anymore without apointing new leaders. Or when current leaders don't do their jobs as should be done.

Gees i'm so pissed that i can not even comment to the help posts of the legion of CSGO/DOTA/PUBG players who do not realize the Steam Client Beta Bugs Reports forum is not their game forum. I'm to agrivated and my wellment answer clearly shows the agression. Y'see, On 1 Dutch forum i got involved in a quarrel with some-one from whom i can only assume he's trying to discredit me and onther person for warning about scams and malware. Coíncidentally (?) right at the end of a 4 month hailstorm of redirect spam on the other big Dutch forum.
Can't stay away. The 2 biggest Dutch forums on Steam have no moderators but they are where the action is. 1 is owned by a Swedish person, not a Dutchy at all!

Or take what used to be the biggest anti scam forum, 2nd only to Jimo's. That's become a gathering place for scammers and malware spammers nowadays. Giving eachother +reps and God (i hope incl. Our Lord Gaben) only knows the coöperations forged there. Same goes for the "Free Tibet" group on Steam.

And it's not only groups that are clearly privately owned. There's Steam Signature that looks like being an official Steam group (isn't). Worse, there are some official Steam forums abused as well. Last january the Steam Community Beta forum got hit, about 30 (CSGO)spamposts still remain today. Or the 2014 Summer Sale forum, hit by the same spamwave in january. As Steam doesn't make new Sales forums anymore, a handfull of honoust Ppl still go there for quesions. Every big sale hat forum will keep popping up when searching, Google and Steam search alike.

When group owners leave the group, new owners don't get any notiofication from Steam stating they inheritted the group. As such i found myself heir to 3 groups where i used to be a regular member. That could be how the Free Tibet group came into the hands of a spammer sindicate. They then created a few brandnew accounts and made these acc.s owner and moderators. Yes the group and the accounts were reported by me right away, seemingly to no avail.

Another string of groups i witnissed last year was created by the spammers themselves. Creating at least 10 new groups each day, posted 1 or more spam messages, invited the friendslists of stolen accounts and then leave the groups to create 10 more such groups. Therewith leaving unsuspecting victims with the ownership of these groups. These groups still exsist and even still bear the name of the spammer sites even tough i reported them as soon as i got wind of them.

&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&* &*&*

Besides the risk of spam, scam, malware, cheats, piracy, flamewar, bullying, grooming, illegal pictures and what have we not in Cyberspace, them groups that are hardly ever used by their 3 to 30 members combined take up a huge amount of serverspace Valve could do without.

Tip : Reporting the various “redirecting scamspam” from the past 4 month i reported under each and any appropriot header available in the profile report system. Reporting under “Spamming advertisements/links” worked best, often removing the offending post within 5 minutes. This while reporting as “Suspected Hijacker or Phishing” often had no result at all, that spam was never removed. Reporting as “Attempted trade scam” showed both good result and no result.

Tip : Where applicable i add a phrase like "Please find a way to deal with non-moderated forums" to my reports.

So please, what are your thoughts. The free groups were a fantastic feature getting Steam & Community to where they are now but i think it’s starting to grow out of proportion.
